My 6 year old Dell that I added 2gb RAM and a GPU to, but is otherwise stock, really has to go. I only ever use it for the web (mostly watching TV shows), and World of Warcraft.
I was going to try to build my own gaming PC based on this chart, but I realized that if I ordered the components and one single thing wasn't compatible, the system might not even run. I totaled the prices from Newegg, and came to about $1000 CAD.
This fear of messing everything up, though, as made me think about buying something pre-built. Are there any brands (or links to specific computers) that are good for gaming? Specifically being able to run WOW as more then the 7FPS average I get now, and hopefully be able to run Cataclysm well enough too.

Thats a decent component list. I tend to prefer Asus boards over Gigabyte, but thats not a bad board. Ram, I'd reccommend getting 8Gb (4X 2GB sticks) and going with a 64 bit Windows 7 operating system, that will give you a significant boost.
CPU, you are right in the price sweet spot. A wuad core with hyperthreading Core i7 is going to run about $150 more than that, so that should last you a while.
PSU, thats a good choice, you might want to see if you can find a bit higher wattage if you ever plan on running multiple graphics cards.
Hard drive, i'd keep the 1TB as a secondary data drive, but also install a 10,000 RPM SATA western dgital raptor drive. The speed boost helps during MMORPGs especially.
Prebuilt gaming rigs, there are several options. each more expensive than the last. Alienware (owned by Dell now) and Voodo PC (owned by HP now) are the two larger ones. WidowPC, Falcon NW, Ibuypower, etc are also decent with a range of prices.
