Hi everybody. I was hoping someone more computer savvy could tell me what I need to change/upgrade in order to get a better Benchmark score. I have a:
AMD Athalon II X4 630 (2.8 ghz) 4gb ram
Windows 7
ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card with up-to-date drivers
I scored a 701 on low setting. Do I just need a new graphics card? Or is it something else? DirectX is 11.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also recommendations for a reasonably priced graphics card if needed.

I'm no expert but you could probably pass with your CPU but you GPU really needs an upgrade. I see everyone suggesting Radeon HD 5770 ($150-$160) & Nvidia GTX 460 (about $200). If your not hard up for cash than yes a new CPU would be advised as well, but for someone else to give you some advise on that they would need your motherboard model. Hope that helps :)
Yeah, your GPU is terrible for gaming. CPU is likely fine, though as mentioned you can probably upgrade that too without much fuss - one of the nice things with the socket AM2+/AM3/etc platform.
The above suggestions are solid for a card, though it may depend slightly on what your power supply is rated at. If you have an off-the-shelf system, it may not have included a PSU that could support a decent GPU.

And as some additional reassurance I believe that nVidia was involved in making the official benchmark and by all reports ATI cards have been getting lower scores than they should.
meh...I hit 3800 on an old ATI 4850 512MB (DDR3) on low, 1870 on high.
I have my ram and core overclocked just a little (@5% on each).
I noticed that the speed of your VRAM and system memory makes a big difference. I dropped VRAM down to it's min and scaled System RAM down to DDR2-800 and the scores tanked.
When looking at new cards, don't just look at the number or ROP's and shader cores, etc. contributing to the raw processing power. Some of those budget cards drop the RAM down (128bit instead of 256 bit, or DDR3 instead of DDR5). Make sure you aren't sacrificing your texture fill rate by getting cheap memory on there. If I had been paying attention when I got my ATI 2 years ago, I would have paid the extra for the 4870 and DDR5...but it was an impulse buy at a tent sale one Saturday afternoon.

I've heard from beta players that with Windows 7 64 bit, the difference between 4 gigs and 6 gigs of RAM is considerable. That'd probably be the cheapest thing to upgrade for most systems.
My PC, which wasn't a strong system even when I put it together two and a half years ago, barely broke 1000 on the benchmark. I'm seriously gonna upgrade my RAM and see if it doesn't jump a lot . . .
Also, this is something that only someone who has played XI for many years and reinstalled it probably 20 times over that timeframe would notice, but in the benchmark, the scene on the ship with the serpent is actually reminiscent of a scene by Amano from the original XI PS2 box art.
