Hello, just posted on WOW forum, then I found this spot...please forgive me, I have not posted here in 2 years, so hello! /wave

I play WOW (again, lol) and am trying t decide how to keep getting intrernet...

I currently use my T-Mobild Dash (blackberry) and tether it to my laptop. But, the bill seems to be going up (even with unlimited net).

I have been doing research, and it seems the aircard from Verizon is $ 49 a month for up to 5 GB transfered.... does that equate to 20 hrs of WOW... or 100 Hours? (I have no clue...I am not a "tehie" at all).

So what/who do you use?

We are moving soon and to keep costs down we will not have internet or phone at the house.... so I need to decide how to keep a cell phone active, but which company is best for my WoW needs also?

So do I use a phone as a modem?
What company do you like best?
Who has the best unlimited deal....
Who is reliable and hardly ever gets you DC'd?

Thanks in advance....All advice a[ppreciated.

Wow doesn't actually transfer a ton of data in game, but patches are going to absolutly kill that 5GB limit. Average large WoW patch is around a1Gb, and in a "bad" months there might easily be 2-3 of them. Then there is all the rest of the internet usage, any videos you watch, etc. large file downloads. You can eat through 5GB pretty quick if you are not careful, and it doesn't just cut off when you hit 5. They start charging you the "super mega spendy rate"

The other issue will be latancy. the cell modems usually have a bit mroe delay to them then a cable modem would. If you are happy with your current teathered setup then that likely will not be an issue for you.

The service provider will really depend on your area you move to / live in, their tower setup, the technology of the phone (ideally you want a 4G data device) etc. If you have a laptop, you might be able to get away with a Cell card modem directly in the laptop, then use something inexpensive like Vonage for your dial tone. there could be quality issue swith the latter though, also 911 considerations (do you have time to let your PC boot in an emergancy, etc.)

I use ATT for my home phone and Verizon for my work phone. Every other year they flip flop as to which one is faster. I can tell you that T-mobile universally has the worst data rate though.

I am not sure where you moved to but I have MetroPCS Unlimited everything that I pay about 50.00 a month for and I tether my Messager II phone to my laptop all the time for gaming on the go. Obviously I wouldn't view videos or download torrents with this method but it's an option if MetroPCS is available to you. There's also other prepaid phone services that you can tether with and try going that route. Net10, Tracfone etc. But it's way more technical and not sure if it's particularly very legal or not. I have had no problems with Metro though. Plus there's always routers that have no passkey protection that you can always piggyback on. I am sure in NYC not many people pay for their own internet anymore.

Depending on where you live, you might be able to get Clear. It works in most major cities right now, and is faster than other mobile internet, and latency is about the same. It's $40 a month.
