Mac startup chime and how to shut it up here.Follow

I was getting annoyed with my new iMac as they still do not allow you to shut up that annoying startup chime and believe me its louder than my last one ever was so i did a little searching and found this.

I can also say that the top range imac with the upgraded video card they now do runs games or at least runs WoW at full power and in windowed mode as well without any lag or stalling and i guess any games with similar needs will be just as good with one , but i guess that only means something to mac lovers , but it was time that macs caught up with the PC brigade.

Agreed the chime is ok but was so loud it was waking up others in my house at times as i sometimes cannot sleep so i turn my mac on for a while , and the latest imac is even louder than my last one so with the neat little app i have now adjusted the sound to a more reasonable level in a very easy system preferences panel fixture.

And to Kaollan i guess you dislike macs but i feel the same about microsoft as that operating system has still got more holes in it than a shower head and the general PC user has no idea how to help protect themselves from even a bad hacker .

I can agree both platforms have their advantages but both mac and pc have big disadvantages as well .

Macs are to expensive for most users and i think apple should be thinking about that more , also many programs are still not available on a mac but we have to find ways around that , but i know even after all these years i still have never seen a mac virus and never got anything else get into my mac that could cause me problems , i have seen thousands of nasty pc stuff though when i check what my antivirus program has caught , i also miss out on seeing the 'emotions' in-game like in WoW which i know is not much but is something i do miss out on.

PC,s have the advantage of being cheap and of course most programs are first made for them but such a mismatch of various operating systems as it is at the moment and because there are so many different ways to break into them with new virus showing up all the time and other ways to do malicious damage i feel sorry for pc users as i bet there are not many that have not been hit by some form of attack . Yes there are ways to stop that happening but how many have the ability to fully understand how to do that properly and to keep ahead of the problems.

Linux is good but needs a technical mind to set up from what i have seen , but i know from friends can be free and very powerful so although i would not use it i can fully see why many do.

I think the main disadvantage of Windows is it is trying to work on so many different makers platforms from those that use the cheapest and sometimes mismatched parts to those that use the best of everything available and every mixture you can think of between , and that is Microsoft's real problem they need to compromise between them all and that cannot ever be a good thing.

My reason for using a mac though is far more practical , give me any pc for a short while and i can guarantee i will crash it , even though i use a pc at work i am forever having to reboot it or having to contact the service department to get out of a stuck system error yet with a mac it never ever crashes and never has lost data unless the hardware dies on me.

Turn off the sound, or plug in headphones.

Mine chimes into the headphones so I don't hear it.
