I recently bought a dvd/cd burner because my old one's disc tray was stuck; it arrived today. I connected the ide ports and the power supply. Drive is getting power (tray will open) but it will not read anything. More troublesome, is that my other drive (a dvd/cd reader) is also no longer working. It was working right before installing the other drive however. The windows automatic hardware installer (that thing in the system tray) says that there was a problem with installation, but did not or could not specify.
I attempted to update drivers, but it didn't go so well. My computer's device manager is only recognizing the existence of a single drive, and I'm not sure which one it is. It won't play anything from that drive, but it shows up in device manager. The second drive does not show up in either my computer or the device manager. Upon attempting to update drivers for the one drive that it recognized, i was informed that they were current.
On booting, the bios tells me that secondary drive 1 and secondary drive 2 are not found. I am assuming that those refer to the disc drives.
The new drive did come with a manual on cd, but I can't open it because both of my drives are not currently functional.
Help is appreciated. I really was looking forward to making some more cds :(
