I'm trying to change the default Icon for Folders in Windows XP Professional, SP2.

I went to the regedit:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\DefaultIcon and changed it to the location of my .ico file

But it doesn't change the icons. I can change each one manually, but not the default.

I also changed HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\DefaultIcon and it didn't change them.

Any help?

You try giving the new icon the same name as the default and adding "original" to the name of the old icon?

Found a site with info that might be helpful.

I had looked, but I think the Icon file for the folder is hidden within a .dll file with numerous other icons and various things. (The SHELL32.dll file)

I had seen that, but was hoping I could just change a setting rather than modify a windows file.

But I read a bunch more over the course of the night, and it looks like default folder icon cannot be changed unless you modify the original file.
