I have AVG 8 installed on my two Windows PCs, both of which I use for FFXI. One is Vista Home Premium SP1, the other is XP Home SP3. Both have all FFXI expansions installed.
Vista computer works just peachy, no conflicts at all. However, if AVG starts its scheduled scan while FFXI is running on the XP computer (Happens with Windower or without Windower), the following will happen:
-Game freezes totally for 3 seconds
-Game responds normally for about 3-5 seconds.
-All programs totally freeze for about 5-7 seconds.
-Computer returns to normal for about 3-5 seconds.
-All programs totally freeze for about 10-15 seconds.
-Computer restarts.
-Windows runs CHKDSK on Drive D (FFXI and all other programs are on C: which is IDE Primary Master. Drive D is SATA-0 and contains only music/movies/files/etc), no errors are found
- Computer boots normally
Had this issue for a while, eventually ran manufacturer hardware/SMART/read tests on both HDs, both passed with no errors.
Backed up everything important, totally wiped both HDs, reinstalled Windows, FFXI, standard computer stuff (java/flash/shockwave/etc), AVG, Spybot
Having the same exact issue, step for step.
Leads me to believe that there may be a compatibility issue with FFXI and AVG 8. Has anyone else had this or a similar problem with AVG8 and FFXI? My workaround is that I'm just gonna permanently disable the automatic scheduled scans, but I'm curious if anyone else has seen this or something similar before.
XP box specs, in case you can pick something out:
3.0 GHz Intel P4 HT
256 MB VRAM nVidia GeForce 6600, 1 GB (512+512) Corsair DDR1 RAM
60 GB Maxtor IDE HD (C:), 150 GB Samsung SATA HD (D:)
IDE CD-RW Drive (E:), IDE DVD-ROM Drive (F:), IDE CD-RW Drive (G:)
At the moment, the only programs besides FFXI on the computer are:
AVG 8.0, Spybot, RPTools MapTool & TokenTool, Windower 3.4, VLC, Latest versions of Adobe Reader, Flash, Shockwave, and Java.
If anyone has seen this or similar issues on their machines, let me know if you notice any similarities between your setup and mind besides just AVG or maybe it's jut AVG that isn't compatible... :/
