Ok, so I just finished building my new box. I decided to go with Vista for a few reasons. Dx10 in the future and other features for a higher end rig. I researched it before hand and it seemed like simply right clicking and choosing run as admin. was fixing most patch problems and such for people.

I really didn't want to suffer thru hours and hours of patching so I tried to just make a copy of all the files I had and transfer them to my new HD via an external HD. This didn't really work. Oh well, I had my doubts. So I uninstalled everything. There was a speciffic file that could not be uninstalled because it could not be found. Also, the WOW desktop icon was still there and could not be deleted. This struck me as very strange.

I dusted off my old CDs and began installing the game from scratch. The game installed just fine and I ran it as an admin. When I got to the login screen, I could log in just fine and was sent to the patch downloading screen. The screen came up and I was asked to restart WOW. I clicked the restart button and got another error message saying that the patcher failed to start and I should try later or reinstall. This was 3 nights ago. So far I have reinstalled twice and tried multiple times to run the patcher with no luck.

Next I have tried to go into the WOW program file folder and find the patch and run it manually (as admin ofcourse) Everytime I try this, I get a message saying that that patch requires a newer version of WOW and that I am running an older version 1.5 (I think)

My next idea is to go download the patches from another site filefront or any of the trusted sites that Blizz recommends. I've recieved some great tech advice from the folks on this site in the past and I just figured I'd see if you guys have any ideas. Sorry for being so long winded, but I wanted to provide as much information as I could.

Anyone have any ideas? I actually really like vista and want to use it, however, if I don't get it working by the end of friday night, I'm going to burn it and download XP. Any help?

Stopped reading here. Call MS support. Hell, you're paying for it.
