Any tech-types folks out there that can help me with this error code I keep getting. When I fire up FFXI and run around unpopulated areas I'm fine. However when I go do campaign or go to the AH after about 1-2 minutes my screen freezes, the music plays the same 3 second clip over and over and I have to hit CTRL/ALT/DEL to kill full screen mode. When the game closes windows works fine. Here is the error message I get from the error logs:

Application Error

Faulting application pol.exe, version 1.18.7.0, faulting module
ffximain.dll, version 3.0.0.0, fault address 0x0005564b

I've run chkdsk, defragged, tried new driver for my video card, new Direct X drivers and no joy. =(

I've run out of ideas.

Seems to be faulty ram, or your FFXI install going kaput.

Try doing a file check when you open POL, both for POL and FFXI, if it has any faulty files, let POL repair them then come back here, if it didnt fix your problem.

Could also be faulty ram acting up.

- Did a POL check and nothing...
- Reinstalled FFXI and same issue
- dropped mem timings from 1T to 2T
- tried lower resolutions of the game
- took PC apart and cleaned everything possible and checked all connections

The screen didn't freeze up almost immediately as before. I could actually check the AH in Whitegate. But when I went to campaign to check out if I could battle it took about 5 minutes before the screen froze and the music was skipping in the back ground.

Then it comes down to either a faulty motherboard or a video card I am affraid. If anyone has any other ideas I welcome them.

sadly you could be right about the mobo. I pulled the video card and ran the game on the on board graphics and the same issue occured. I am thinking the CPU might be heat damaged as the game only freezes when under heavy CPU load. Weird as its gone from a rare problem to weekely to daily to by the minute oevr the last few months. =(

This isn't terribly unusual. Think about the xbox 360 "RROD" issue; few (if any) people have it when they first buy the system, but it progressively starts cropping up as the device gets older and more playtime occurs. What actually causes this problem is heat warping the primary circuit boards until the electrical contacts separate, at which point the board is no longer properly conductive and thus returns the 3-light error that is so infamous.

In much the same way, if your CPU has a heat distribution problem, the longer the problem persists, the more prone to failure it becomes.
