Hello everyone,

I really need some advice form you all. I am very keen on buying a pair of awesome quality headphones for all-round use (PS3/PSP gaming, some music, movies etc). I have researched everywhere I can and found the consensus seems to be that it's actually very difficult to find a good quality headphone that plays both games and music well, and that you can only find a set that does one and not the other well.

The ones I have been recommended include the Sennheiser HD215, Audio Technica AD400 or the Audio-Technica ATH-A900 Art Headphones.

Can anyone here recommend a high quality set that are say <$200?

Thank you, HAPPY EASTER!

** Edited to PS3/PSP gaming and not PC ><; Chocolate bunny got lodged on my cerebral cortex.

You want the Sennheiser PC 350 headset if you can find it under $200. I'm not sure I trust compsource as a vendor, but they have them here.

Gah thanks for the very helpful reply kao, but stupid me put PC (habit) instead of PS3/PSP gaming preference. I'm sorry ;-;

Essentially yeah a great all-rounder device would suit me best as I don't really do anyone one activity (console gaming, music, movies etc) more than any other. Thanks again Kao!

Well in that case, maybe the senheiser HD595.

http://www.fullcompass.com/product/352881.html

Or the HD600
https://www.scotaudio.com/acatalog/Sennheiser_HD_25-13.html

You could get the HD215 for around $60 though if you wanted

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones that I got off of Newegg for $100. I believe you can still get them for that amount. They've treated me extremely well, they sounded great from the beginning and are both durable and comfortable. They've worked well for both music and games from my experience. And boy, you can make 'em go loud if you want to. Things can practically double as a pair of small speakers. Can't imagine using anything else.

If you really want to go all out there is always the Bose Quitecomfort. It cancels the sounds around you so you only hear what is going through your headphones. It's also a Bose so you know its high quality sound. I've never used it...but I've dreamed about it.

Only downside is Quietcomfort 2 costs $299 and Quietcomort 3 costs $349.

A fair amount of poker players wear these. I wasn't impressed.

For music, I use the Etymotic Research ER-6i: http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.aspx

I ride the train to and from work, so the isolation they provide is top notch, while still being surprisingly good fidelity for such small pieces. Still garbles a bit on some of the heavier stuff, like if there's a full orchestra playing, but I think that's a victim of the ipod's 0.5W amp more than the earphones.

(Sidenote: These penetrate pretty deep into your ears. Some people don't like that; I don't know how I ever went without it. Constantly having earbuds fall out is no fun, yet I can pull these out in a hurry if I need to clearly hear my surroundings. They have a $20 set of earplugs you can buy that fit the same way the earphones do; I recommend the earplugs to anyone who ever does concerts or movie premiers, since they're such a life saver for your eardrums...you could get those and see how comfortable they are to compare to the earbuds.)

For gaming, I don't have headphones on often since I have a nice 2.1 speaker set. But when I do game on the go, I take my Everglide S-500: http://www.everglide.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=44

I got them from woot.com for cheap, $45; they sell them there now and again, keep an eye out if that price sounds good. They're not BOSE quality, but they sound good, and accentuate the things I want to be hearing when I'm in a game.

But while writing this I noticed you emphasized having something well-rounded, so all of the sennheiser suggestions would probably suit you better. These are just some examples of some more specialized choices based on my experiences :D
