Graphic issues (FFXI & WoW) cannot isolate causeFollow

I cannot remember when it started happening but sometime Quarter Four of last year I started seeing “seams” in games I play that were never previously there.

The “seams” vary from game to game (In World of Warcraft there was a seam running down the middle of all characters if I turned them to the side, and also where branches attached to tree trunks)

In Final Fantasy XI the seams are everywhere, running from where grass textures meet, to cave, walls, everything (moderately spaced out but still common), also in Final Fantasy XI there are places where shadows are not blending with light properly leaving a line of shadow with shadow on one side and light on the other, this was not previously experienced this is also experienced in World of Warcraft.

In Final Fantasy XI (It’s the main game I play so I’ll be using it for most examples) textures on equipment will flicker, not the whole piece of equipment just parts of it, this extends to hair, armor, boots, and, pretty much all pieces of gear, the weird thing is that this flickering only happens depending on which zone (area) I am in in the game.

The flickering also happens to magma, while exploring a volcano I saw a stream of magma what was constantly flicking, non stop, rapidly.

I thought it was my 7300LE graphics card, so I replaced it with a 8600GT, problem still there, tried a different monitor, no fix, tried a different VGA cord but that did not help, cleaned out my PC still no fix, changed drivers, no fix, checked for malware, spyware, and virus, none of the above, and also defragged, I am at a complete loss as to what could be causing this, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Can you post any screenshots of what you are seeing?

This can be a couple of things actually;

1) Programming, not matter what type of card/driver combo you use if the program is written bad you will see seams. FFXI is written pretty bad and even using the most compatible card and drivers you will always see them.

2) Graphic card settings. You should try to tweak not only your GPU settings such as Anti-Aliasing but also using hardware acceleration among other things. Also try tweaking your FFXI config if you can't done so already, as the config will offer you small tweaks to increase/decrease those seams.

These are some old pictures, but the seams can be seen all over the place and I never used to see this crap as common when I first started playing the game four years ago on a different PC and when I started using this one a bit over 2 years ago, they just were not all over the place.

Also want to add, that when installing FFXI I see a tic-tac-toe style during installation on the background image, these lines do not show on any images/text boxes that appear when installing, it's single lines creating a # like effect and the lines are multi-colored.

Also having an issue where sometimes water graphics do not show up in still water... mostly happens in San d'Oria or Windurst, sometimes it'll be there, sometimes it will not, it's random so it seems...

Those images you posted are normal. . those small seams like that appear all over the game because you have to remember it's a port from PS2 so graphics are not going to be as well designed as they would if it was a complete new build from the ground up.

If the seams are normal (although they appear to be a lot more common than I remember, and stand out a lot more) then what's up with the flickering & missing water (sometimes)

Check to make sure your GPU is getting cooled properly (fan working, good airflow, etc)
