Charging Problem (btw, hi guys) (was forum=21)Follow

Hello Allakhazam. Just wanted to give a quick hello to everyone. I've been a lurker for almost a year now because quite frankly, all of my questions have been answered in each FAQ (yes, people do still read those and find them useful). I've been playing WoW for a while now (less than a year) and have a 70 Undead Warlock on Llane (Nekraal). Anyways, on to the real point of this post:

I have had this gateway laptop for a little under a year and its been working fine, especially since I upgraded to 2GB of RAM. About a week ago it would start giving me problems with the charger. I'd have turn turn it every which way to find the PERFECT position so it to begin charging my laptop. After a good two days of this madness I went out to my local Best Buy and bought a universal charger (the one with around 8 different charger heads). After picking the one that fits perfectly it wouldn't give my laptop a charge unless I had it in an awkward position too. Playing WoW is becomming more and more difficult by the night. My question is, since there is obviously nothing wrong with the charger, what is wrong with my laptop? Do I have no choice but to buy a new one or is it something that can be fixed? Can I do it myself or do I need a pc expert?

Sounds like the connection on the laptop might be a little borked.

You could take it in and get an estimate. It may or may not be a quick easy or cheap fix.

You say it is just under a year old. It may still be under warrenty

From Gateway.com wrote:
The term of this Limited Warranty is one (1) year (the “Limited Warranty Period”). For products purchased directly from Gateway, the Limited Warranty Period begins when the product is shipped to you; for products purchased from an authorized reseller, the Limited Warranty Period begins on the date of purchase.

I have seen this at work with some of the company laptops that come in. Usually the sodder is broken/loose causing it to loose contact if not positioned correctly. It is usually covered but I would call to double check.

Gateway Support

Hope that helps......

Also, this would be better posted in the Technical Support Forum

Hey, I just got off the phone with Gateway. Apparently I called just in the nick of time because my warranty expires February (extended it for an extra year in case of future problems). They said that there is a problem with my motherboard. They're sending me a box in the next two business days where I'll place my laptop (minus 1 gb of RAM) and should have everything said and done with in approx. 2 weeks maximum. Man, two weeks without WoW, ouch. What to do, what to do....

Anyways, a thousand thanks for the suggestion to call Gateway, I would've never thought of that since I tend to be in LaLa land when of comes to computer stuff.
