FFXI : Can see the lines between objects.Follow

I took a break from FFXI a couple months back and when I returned I found myself seeing the lines between texturized pieces of objects. (Example, In Konschant Highland when the cliff side connects to the ground I can see the line between the two, as though they were not close enough together) This doesn't happen everywhere but it happens enough to where it is annoying to look at. (Jeuno MH window has the line boxed around it) I find this odd and am curious as to what's up?

My Graphics Card is a Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE (latest version updated 1.63.75)

Sorry for the late reply I have been away from the Tech forums a little as of late.

When you quit FFXI for that time period did you do any driver updates for video?

I know you said you have the most current however with FFXI the drivers can be very picky and can cause a numerous amount of issues from slowing down from BRD songs to complete NPC's disappearing.

If you are unsure what I would do is download the most recent driver set (So you have it) then download two to three others which are older and try to get them more then a few months apart. Then install those drivers and see what happens, that sadly is the only way to test it.

I think what you are experiencing is more driver related then hardware as if the card was going bad you would notice pixelation and colors fading not only in game however out of it as well.

Try that and post your results, we can narrow down the root cause with just a few different things most of the time.

I've gone to the Nvidia website to look for older versions of drivers, but I'm completely lost as to where to find them on their website. Any help would be appreciated.

Since you asked nice and didn't default me like someone did in another tech thread here you go.

Forceware 80
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_84.21.html

Forceware 90 (2006 Drivers)
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71_2.html

Give those a shot. Honestly I am not 100% sure that this is your problem however changing drivers is fairly simple and fixes a lot of issues with Final Fantasy XI. I am not sure why Nvidia who backs Final Fantasy XI makes their drivers play hell with the game but that is another topic all together.

Here are some screen shots of the issues I see.

These little line things can be found in many areas, especially caves.

Oh those, I thought it was super noticeable like walls way out of whack and such. Actually that is normal sadly, mine is similar to that as well in certain area's.

I want to say there is something that you can do to lessen that, but I don't remember what.

You could try to increase your background settings in the Final Fantasy XI Config and also check your config settings with bump mapping and such however how much of an overall effect that will have I honestly don't know.

The link below talks about the FFXI config as well as other options to optimize your settings such as increasing your overlay beyond what the config tool allows.

If they're normal maybe I just never paid much attention to them before I took a break from the game, but they definitely seem more noticeable and common so maybe it's cause of me tinkering w/ my FFXI graphics >_>

It's hard telling to be honest but definitely nothing to worry about.

I could try messing around with your overlay and other graphic options as you can minimize those lines a ton. I am running a higher overlay and the only ones I see now are in Sandy on very rare occasions.

Good luck to you, and I hope that just tweaking a few settings will get it running nice.

There is also the windower option which you can increase or decrease the drawdistance which will also make a difference as it will render your character and give the appearance of a sharper image (fake AA). Just throwing that option out there as well as that little application is used pretty commonly and wide spread.

Although with this game I would absolutely love an increased draw distance (it's full of boo and fail atm on PC) I never use 3rd party applications (even in games like WoW when it's allowed) :3 but that's just me, I'll try increasing the draw distance.

The likely cause of these is the areas texture maps. Nothing you can do, really. :x Thankfully, seams and such aren't visible in many places.

It's the game engine. Especially at higher resolutions.

I know these things have always existed but they used to be few and far between, I run at the resolutions: Overlay Graphics: 1024 x 768 and Background: 1024 x 1024, I've always used these resolutions and these pixel issues I'm seeing never were this common, today I went to camp O.Kote and the pixel line things were everywhere in the zone...

Far as long as I have been playing FFXI (since it was released in NA), there have been seams and overlapping textures all over the place. I've always just chalked it up to the fact that it's a PS2 port.
