Looking for a specific kind of monitor...Follow

Okay, I'll get straight to the point. Lately I've had an urge to set up a second screen so that I can play a game console while using the computer. However, I don't want to just set up a television, as I've also wanted a dual monitor setup for awhile. So, what I'm looking for is something that I can plug both my PC and my console into simultaneously, that allows me to switch between the inputs on the fly, preferably with the touch of a button. If at all possible a composite video input would be preferred so that I don't have to buy a component video cable for my PS2. Built-in speakers are also a must, since I don't have any other means of output for my console sound.

Something like this would be absolutely ideal. Unfortunately, I was hoping to spend less than $300.

I was also considering this one. However, it only has component video, and should I buy the cable I don't know if a single sound input would be sufficient (or reachable Smiley: tongue).

Are there any other suggestions out there? Is what I want even feasible?

No offense, but you're not telling me if what I want to attempt is actually possible with the kind of set-up on that monitor. Which is kind of what I was looking for, here.

You can buy some pretty cheap adapters to go from VGA to whatever you want.

You have to be careful however as a large number of them are only for CRT monitors and will not work on LCD monitors. I learned my lesson the hard way after buying mine.

Here is something that should work for you;
Adapter

If anything search around e-bay a little you can usually find some cheap solutions, this one is a $4 fix.

Here is another option for you, this is the one I actually ended up getting as it works great with my LCD back when I played my PS2 on my Apple Studio Monitor.
Another Option

I am semi confused, i take it you just want to be able to play console on a PC monitor while still having it work for a PC. Well the second option is what you want. Then you can use it with any monitor so you don't need anything special, heck you can use it with your existing monitor.

Ah, that second one is perfect, just what I was looking for.

Thanks. Smiley: smile

EDIT: I guess I was wondering if it would be possible to do what that little box does with a monitor alone. I take it the answer to that is "no".

No, I don't know of anyone that does that unless you buy an LCD TV in which case some may have it however it's usually a DVI connection not VGA, not to mention they will be more expensive.

Glad I could be of help.

Well, for instance there's the first monitor that I linked in the OP, which has all of the inputs you could ever need... though I don't know if it has the capability to switch between them on the fly.

Should be able to, but you never really know.

I read some of the reviews but I didn't see anything that jumped out at me hinting towards it.
