Graphics problem?Follow

#1 Jul 17 2007 at 8:31 PM Rating: Decent
Whenever I load certain games on my computer (Black and White 2, and Gunbound) my screen's resolution gets messed up and the screen ends up something like this. I couldnt screenshot it in action cause when I screenshot it, it views the screen as normal.

Problem is, I can't even google and figure out what the problem is, because I don't know what to search for.

I have the latest drivers for my card too.

Sounds like your screen is getting rotated. HAve you by chance tried the hot key to rotate your screen?

In Windows XP try Ctrl + Alt and the arrow keys to flip it, now that sortcut is for most lenovo/IBM brands.

I think for Compaq and HP it's just ALT or Ctrl and the arrow keys.

Give that a shot and see if that corrects it. even if it's a temp fix.

Not working.

Also, I'm using Vista.

No idea then, could be a vista compatibility issue then.

I know there are a lot of great games I use to play that vista for better terms screws up.

Anything from loading into a 20x20 pixel box to full graphical artification.

Better to use XP, or if your Hard Drive is large enough dual boot with XP and Vista.

Check the makers of the games you are having issues with and see if they have a compatibility patch for Vista.

Alright, I'll look into it.

Which video card do you have? and what make / model of monitor? Also, are your drivers up to date?

With games like that, what appens is your video card switches from default resolution to the game's native resolution. It could be that your monitor doesn't like that switch.

Good point Dread Lörd Kaolian, I didn't even think about that. However why would it invert the screen like the OP described.

I know with the new Intel macs that older games such as Diablo 2 and Starcraft will invert it due to hardware incompatibility in which you need to use software emulation.

Yeah try what Dread stated as well, he brought up some good points.

I've got a geforce 6150 LE, it's an onboard video card, i'm getting a new card in the next couple weeks.

my drivers are up to date.

i also tried the resolution thing before i even posted here, i tried lowering my native resolution down to the games size and then running the game, same problem.

I would try some older drivers then, maybe two version old because there is no reason for it to invert your video like that. If it was hardware between your card and your monitor it simply wouldn't function.

I would assume that 800x600 is supported by your monitor, I mean darn near 100% of any new monitor you get should.

You can also, not sure with those games but sometimes you can edit a config file to default it opening to another resolution instead of 800x600.
