Hello. I have been playing ffxi on a desktop pc for the past 5 years, but I just got a laptop and I'd like to transfer the game to it. Is this possible? I think I've seen it somewhere before but I don't know how it's done.

Thanks in advance!

What do you mean exactly? Install the game and update normally. All of your character info is stored server side. If it's macro settings and such, I know there is a way to transfer them, but I never had to do it so I'm not sure on the specifics.

I mean I don't think that you can use the same cd-key on a different computer. When you go to install it checks against its database and when it finds it already in use you can't use it. I remember seeing somewhere there was a way to transfer the files and maybe do something to the registry (?) to get it to work so you don't have to re-buy ffxi.

The account key is only used to register your account with POL. As long as you know your account number and password, nothing else is needed.

One thing I might add, if you can actually copy the Square Enix folder from Program Files to the new comp, you'll save yourself hours of downloads if you have the original install disks like I do. It will still want to check all 16,000 files, but you won't have to download and install them all again.
