Now, I had this problem once before and updating a few things with the drivers fixed it, but the same exact problem has come up again and nothing I do with the drivers seems to help. (Removing it and letting the computer pick it up manually, rolling it back, updating it, etc.)

Whenever I insert a blank DVD into my DVD drive I no longer get my auto-pop up menu with a bunch of options. The computer doesn't even seem to realise there's anything in there, because it lists my E: drive (DVD drive) as if nothing is in there. "Free space: 0 bytes" "Total Size: 0 bytes".

I also use a program called Drag & Drop CD+DVD to burn, but I seriously think that's not the problem, since my drive won't even recognize that there's a blank DVD in there.

To give some information:

Yes, it still plays DVDs perfectly.
Yes, it is a DVD RW drive or whatever, one that's capable of writing and reading.

Here's some specifics:

[E:] SONY DVD RW DW-U12A
Vendor Identification: SONY
Product Idenfification: DVD RW DW-U12A
Product Revision Level: 2.0e
Location: atapi, Port1, Bus 0, Target 0, Lun 0
Device Letter: E:
DVD Region Info: RPC=2, Region: 1
Region reset change: User: 4 / Vendor: 4
Buffer Size: 8192 KB

Maximum Read Speed: 32X (4800 KB/Sec)
Maximum Write Speed: 24X (3600 KB/Sec)

Read ISRC: Supported
Read UPC: Supported
BURN-Free Technology: Power-Burn
Read ATIP: Unknown

Now, both Alcohol 120% and Drag and Drop CD+DVD recognize that there is a blank recordable DVD in the drive and I just can't figure out what the problem is. (Drag and Drop says that it's a calibration error, whatever that means. It's not even a listed error on their site.)

Any information on the subject or help would be much appreciated.

DVD drives have their own firmware, have you tried updating that? And it could be because the drive only reads DVD-R discs but may not read DVD+R discs or vice versa. And how many different discs have you tested with the drive? Some discs come straight from the manufacturer unreadable or writable; you may have just been unlucky.
