JP Client IssueFollow

Ok I own both JP and NA versions of FFXI. I've been using both for years now whenever I want to switch between versions. The registry keys have been set up properly and worked fine for a while now. However recently I suppose from updates in FFXI software or something, problems have arisen.

At first I was receiving an error which stated that:

The File "PlayOnline Viewer Tetra Master.msi" was not found.

I was offered a manual input for the pathway. I was completly unable to find this file so I gave up playing FFXI for a few days. I started messing around with the registry keys and found that if I renamed the folders and fixed the pathways to connect to "Playonline\SquareEnix" rather than "PlayOnlineJP" or "PlayOnlineUS" the error message for manual entry to the pathway of "PlayOnline Viewer Tetra Master.msi" did not show and POL Viewer booted up just fine. However there was a new bug that I am now entirely stuck at.

The US Version works just fine now. I can run and play FFXI on it whenever I like. The JP Version however is encountering a serious bug. When I start up the JP POL Viewer it works just as normal until I hit Play on the FFXI screen and the FFXI screen attempts to Launch the program freezes. I am fully able to Ctrl+Alt+Delete out of the program but the JP FFXI itself will not launch and gets stuck every time just before the screen for "Accept or Deny the POL Liscence agreement" would pop up.

I've never encountered this error before and like usual, PlayOnline's FAQ and live support was absolutely 0 help to me completely unable to give me even a slight smidgeon of information on how to fix this situation. I've also been completely unable to find any record of this happening to anyone else.

Interesting in deed.

You have your two clients pointing to two different copies of the Final Fantasy XI folder right?

I have read that if you don't use a copy it can mess up the JP client, I have never ran in to the issue myself but from that I have seen they use the basic setup;

Playonline
-SQUARE (This would be your JP Client)
    -Final Fantasy XI
    -Tetramaster
    -PlayOnlineViewer
  -SquareEnix
    -Final Fantasy XI
    -Tetramaster
    -PlayOnlineViewer

I tried once to link the reg to use just one Final Fantasy XI folder however it seemed to not work at all.

Suggestions, I would re-do your JP client install and point it to a second copy if it's not already and see what that does.

I tried doing that just now. The error I previously encountered of "Cannot find PlayOnline Viewere Tetra Master.msi" occured again. Since that .msi file is the one extracted for temporary use by the installation program of POL, I don't quite see how it is supposed to look for it once POL Installer is finished and deletes it. Also on a side note, when I launch the JP POL when I go to Ctrl+Alt+Delete out of it I can see in the background that same ".msi not found" error window although I'm unable to access it at all thanks to the background screen freezing.

Yes I have both versions on at the same time. I've lived in Japan for a while in my life and from it I know enough to get by on simple speak but if you're watching cutscenes or something in the game the language is too intricate with vocabulary I'm not familiar with yet to play on 24/7 so I switch over to English Client when that occurs. For my everyday play though I try to use the JP version as much as possible and this has prevented me from using it at all in the last 3 days or so.

Registry changes seem to fix the ".msi" error pre-launch of FFXI however it re-occurs when trying to launch JP FFXI. Also, this is all on the Vista versions of the clients. I have so far been unable to determine if these are Vista-version errors they haven't fixed or something.

That is what I am thinking as well, pre Vista POL versions have had zero issues in the past with loading two clients.

Then again I am wondering if it is something wrong with the client install itself or another underlaying issue.

Probably a silly question but you have your default language use for binary as Japanese correct?

You would know as your paths would look something like this C:¥Windows¥Program Files¥

I myself ran into an issue where my JP POL wouldn't load without me turning it to Japanese instead of English.

Oh yes of course my unicode is set to Japanese but it just refuses to load FFXI itself. POL viewer loads just fine. Just as soon as you see the:

-Checking FFXI for updates
-screen goes dark
-reopens FFXI screen
***FREEZES***

right there.

Here are some more idea's ^^

Delete your JP side copy of the Final Fantasy XI folder and make a new copy. It looks like your JP POL client clears just fine however it hangs when accessing your Final Fantasy XI folder.

Also once you load the JP client do a Check Files on it to verify your Final Fantasy XI copied folder that should catch any deviations from what the client s seeing.

Attempted to reinstall >> File check POL and FFXI then launch failed.

Reinstalled JPPOL and reinstalled FFXI. File checked all of POL and FFXI and got the "No errors found" message. Attempted launch, same freezing point.

That is so messed up, I am simply out of idea's.

It sounds like you took all the steps I would have thought to do.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Its ok I thank you for your effort. I'm just surprised I'm apparently the only one on the planet who has ever encountered this error. Moreso I'm surprised that re-installing FFXI from scratch specifically from and for the JP Client did NOTHING to help...

That actually doesn't surprise me there are probably remnants of the old install on the drive along with reg entries.

My FFXI just recently did the same thing but mine kept asking for .msi's and a lot of them. It wouldn't even let me re-install POL or anything either so I ended up just redoing my entire computer.

I am not sure how much this is a "must have" but if in doubt, backup, blow up, and start over.

Besides a new clean install of windows is always good to get rid of the old stuff laying around.
