Hello, can anyone tell me the wattage of the PSU I need for the following specifications? I'm thinking 600w but it may be a little overboard and I don't want to waste electricity.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz
Motherboard: EVGA 122-CK-NF63-TR LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
Memory: CORSAIR XMS2 DOMINATOR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2

Case: Aluminum body ATX Full Tower
Also, is the GeForce 8800GTX worth the 300$ more than the 8800GTS 320MB?

You can't waste electricity by using a larger PSU than necessary, only if said PSU is less efficient.

A 750 would be just fine on that system and would give you plenty of room to upgrade. You could get by witha 650. With an 8800gtx I wouldn't go lower than 600. And yes, it is worth it I think at any rate.

Also, you can check this site for a wattage calculator. They are re-designing it right now to add the newer hardware in so it isn't the best but you can check it out to get a ballpark idea at least.

You can't waste electricity by getting a larger PSU than you need. A PSU will only consume as much electricity is actually being used by the system(Example: If you bought a 500 watt psu, and the components only consumed 400 watts, then 400 watts is what electricity would be drawn off the main)

Generally I would agree, with one Caveat. The newer the power supply, the more efficient it will run. A 1000w power supply would generally draw more than a comperable era 500w power supply, but would probably draw considerably less than one of the earler generation 500w supplies.

Can you link me to the guide that states that? I got two books here that specifically state that using a larger power supply than necessary will not be a waste of electricity. Unless of course you mean differences in efficiency(And yes, I know that more than 400 watts would be drawn off the main in that case. I just said 400 for simplicity's sake and hypothetically assuming a 100% efficient power supply)
