hey guys i need some help.
Every time i put any disc into my dvd drive on the computer it does not read. I tried putting in the TOAU expansion pack for Final Fantasy XI and it did not read. After I tried putting in a dvd movie and it still did not read. If there is anything i can do (besides going to the store and replacing) that you could think of I will be forever greatful.
thanks again

Make sure it's actually a DVDROM, and not a CDROM.

If every time you put DVDs into it, it doesn't read...

open the case, with the power off duh, and double check that the IDE cable has not come lose. they will do that from time to time. unplug it from both the MB and the DVD drive then plug it back in. careful not to crack the MB when you put it back in.

also if it is the ONLY IDE device you can swap ports on the MB and see if you just lost your IDE1. that happens from time to time as well.

after that you can update your MB chipset drivers and last resort is the BIOS drivers. before you update your BIOS you should check in the BIOS to see if the DVD player is registering. if it is not either the drive is bad or the IDE port is bad.

Make sure it's a DVD drive and try finding up-to-date drivers before doing anything Singdall mentioned.
