Hello, I run Windows XP on a MacBook Pro. The other day when I was clearing files for hard drive space I believe I deleted something I shouldn't have. Now Windows refuses to start up regardles of safe mode, etc. Is there anyway to get around reinstalling Windows, or must I waste Saturday afternoon?

If Windows even refuses to start up in safe mode your seriously ******* Surely there are probably some ways to get the whole thing running again, but I'd suggest to reinstall Windows. I think that's the only way you can make sure you run on a stable system again.

Well you could use something like Knoppix STD to get access to that partition however time wise it would be easier just to blow away your windows partition and start over.

I would suggest grabbing anything off the drive you want first using either UNIX or another method unless you wish to install FFXI and everything else over again. Make sure to grab those Reg keys also.

Drop the windows CD in the drive, reboot and instead of a reinstall, try the "repair a damaged installation" option.

Doing a repair install sucks. Get ride of it do a clean install you don't need all that random files laying around with no registry entrys flabbing up your hard drive.
