Anyone here know what would cause this? I know there is a similar thread, but that person uses Windower and I don't, so I don't know if it is the same problem.
Setup: 2 computers (mine and my husbands), 1 router, 1 cable modem
My husbands: No problems whatsoever on 2 different PC's (he just got a new one).
Mine: Frequent screen freeze whenever I am in battle and occasionally when I am not. By screen freeze, I mean that my video freezes up. To others I appear to be DC'ing, though I never actually do. The freeze lasts for anywhere from 10-30 seconds. When it stops, I appear with the funny bugged box that used to be the red disk of DC icon. The game continues around me, but my character stops dead. I know this because I was once zoning a gob and was ahead of it, froze, and unfroze dead - the gob had caught up and killed me while I was frozen.
I had left FFXI for several months and returned in September, so I can't pinpoint when this started (though certainly not before May last year). I think I have had the problem since I got back, though I didn't really notice it until I started levelling melee jobs a few months ago, since the problem occurs more often while I am in melee.
My PC:
Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.8GHz
Memory: 512MB RAM
Page File: 308MB used, 938MB available
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Video card:NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.9371 (English)
Display Memory: 256.0 MB
Sound card: Realtek AC97 Audio
Last week I reformatted and re-installed FFXI from scratch. I also swapped the ethernet cable to a new one. STILL getting the freezing ><
Hub and I both have GeForce Nvidias, both using same drivers, both systems are fresh format/installs. We have different sound cards and he has Intel celeron, where I have the sempron. Neither of us use any 3rd party programs. Any idea why I should be plagued with this while his isn't? That means it can't be the modem, right?
Any help greatly appreciated.
