I cannot see my character or portrait in WoW.Follow

So, I've never played WoW before, so I decided to try the trial. Well, I have it installed, but I cannot see my character or my portrait in the upper left hand corner. I apologize for sounding like an idiot, but I need help. Thank you in advance for any help I might receive.
