so my question is does the HDD tie itself to the PS2 and Network adapter? cause if not i plan on tryn to get his Patches on my system or at least the info off his discs

or if you can tell me how to get his system to read the blue discs that would work too

Fairly certain that once the HD is connected to a PS2, it will only work for that unit. I could be wrong though. Is his PS2 horizontal or vertical?

You can change the network adapters but not the hard drives between the two ps2s. I know this cause at one time FFXI got to me and i sent my ps2 to meet my living room wall at a high rate of speed~lol needless to say i was at game stop the next day picking up my new ps2 when i swapped the hdd i had to reinstall the game disks, it did not reconize the installed data on my hdd.

I know you can send it into Sony and have them replace the lens, however this was a while ago and I am not even sure if they service the older model PS2.

Yes the HDD unit once you install the utility and games you want on it makes it unique to that PS2. There are some software applications which will allow you to retrieve that data however unless you have a pretty good tech head can be confusing.

So in lamest terms unless you are trying a last ditch effort to get something off it, your better off formating the HDD unit and starting over.
