So, I was looking at playing FFXI...and I had two possibilities.

1) I can play it on my old HD PS2, but I hear the performance isn't very good (and I don't have my HD PS2 around, just my slimline, I'd have to go back home to get my HD PS2, so I'd have to wait a couple months)

2) I'm also in the market for buying a brand new Macbook (not Pro) which could run Windows and OSX natively, and I can play FFXI on the Windows half.

Which would be better performance-wise, does anybody run XI on the Macbook...how does it work for them? Would I be better off saving up 2x as long to get a Macbook Pro?

A pure Windows laptop or desktop doesn't really interest me, it's either an iMac desktop or a Macbook laptop.

The new core duo 2 macbooks are coming out soon, but I hate macs so I won't taint your oppinions by expressing my own here. i will say this. Running ffxi on a windows enabled macbook will give you the same performance as you would get on a windows laptop.
