I'll be moving into a dorm for the first time in a few weeks and im wondering if there is any device that will allow both my laptop and my ps2 to be simultaneously connected to the internet without significantly diminishing their connection speeds. Im not very tech savvy, so to speak, but im not dumb either, so as long as whatever it is i need to do can be found in the manual of whatever it is i have to buy, i should be able to handle it. And i dont mean to be a brat but please spare me the "as a freshman in college ffxi should be your last priority". Besides, if too much ffxi ruins my grades, i can always become a gilseller. Haha just kidding folks. thanks for the help

If your room has an internet cable then sure. Just buy a switch, plug the main internet cable into it and then you can connect up to well, depends on what switch you've got really. We're running 5 computers back home on the same line.

As for diminishing speeds, it's not much, but if both your PS2 and computer are sucking on the line at the same time (ie. if your computer is downloading and you're playing PS2 online) they have to share the speed.

Head down to your local electronics shop and ask someone down there. Tell them you need to connect two machines to one line and they'll most likely show you their collection of switches.

Ps. There are no stupid questions. Only stupid answers.

Doesn't FFXI limit the download speed? I know it's not capped at 56k like some have stated, but it should be plenty to run FFXI if it's broadband. Hell, I used to have FFXI running on the PS2, FFXI running on one computer, surfing the internet with another computer, and a 4th I was working from home on.

You might have to smack down your roomates and neighbors for peer-to-peer **** sharing though. That's usually the killer on campuses.
