Character name ChangeFollow
I just wondered if it were possible to ask a GM to change my name in FF XI. One GM told a ls member to change his name once because it was offensive. He told him to log out and then log in again, thus being able to change his name. Would they do this for me?
They won't do that unless they need to, like if you named your character "Ibuygilsofckyou" and they got a zillion complaints because of it.
You might be able to deactivate the content ID, make a new content ID and new character with that name (this hinges on if the name is "freed up" on a deactivated ID) on the same server, then reactivate you other ID and try to log in. If that works it should say a character already has that name and let you rename it.
If deactivating the ID leaves the name in (good chance it does) then only deleting the character would free it up, so if your willing to take risks you could then get them to bring the character back. People have had mixed results with getting chracters back...

You can have a friend make a complaint that your name means something vulgar in another language.
