FFXI-PC startup problemFollow

#1 Apr 13 2006 at 9:19 AM Rating: Decent
Windows ME, 1.4ghz, 348RAM

I recently installed FFXI for the PC. Every time I go to the character selection screen FFXI closes and sends me back to windows. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What kind of graphics card do you have?

Also, click Start, then Run, then type DXDIAG. Curious to know what version of Direct X you're on.

I know in the settings there is an option to disable some of the advanced graphics in the character selection screen. It's under Start, Programs, Playonline (or FFXI I can't remember), then FFXI Config.

DirectX 8.1. NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS.

I've been playing FFXI on my PS2 all this time, but since my PS2 no longer reads CDs I won't be able to install the new expansion on it. Which is the reason I reinstalled my PC version. I had this same problem before, but it was a long time ago and I don't know what I did to remedy it.

I'll try disabling advanced graphics like you recommended.

I think the problem is that I'm logged off in kazham, and it is telling me that I don't have Rise of the Zilart installed. I'm now going to try reinstalling it.

This is getting increasingly frustrating. It is now reinstalling all updates, just for reinstalling the expansion.

Edit: It still won't start. I'm out of ideas.

When you reinstalled, was it just the Rise of Zilart or the whole game? My only other thoughts would be to try reinstalling the game from scratch and checking your drivers for the vid card to make sure they're approved.

It looks like Direct X 8.1 is all you need for the game (I played with 9.0c myself) so I don't know that you need to update it. Hopefully someone else has ideas.
