SpySheriff!? Help!Follow

Somehow, some way, I have contracted the dreaded MalWare 'SpySheriff'. After looking up the little pop-up message that appears in my icon tray, it seems like I have only contracted half of what everyone else I've heard of has.

For others, it would download a program called 'SpySheriff', and it would run, cause desktop failures and so on and so forth.

This hasn't been the case for me. While I still get the same popup message as everyone else in my little tray, I see no signs of a SpySheriff program that is active.

I'm thinking it's a possibility that I only have half of the adware. Can anyone help me out?

I've used AdAware on this, as well as SpyWare Search and Destroy AND i've scanned with the latest version of Norton, but none of these sources seem to come up with what i'm looking for.

Can anyone give me a hand? Please someone tell me the way to get rid of this. This is a brand new computer, and I don't want anything bad happening to it. ._. Help!

Also, please forgive me if this has been addressed. I haven't seen anything of this type. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you're correct, until you actually download the program and install it you're only really half infected.

Here's a good link with instructions to get rid of it, there's further instruction specific to spysherrif at the bottom of the page but i'd suggest you go through the smitfraud removal steps first.

By some grace of a miracle or somethingorother, the tray icon disappeared just now.

I still ran Hijackthis, and the smitfraud stuff, just to make sure, but it appears to be gone now.

Thanks for everything guys. If it reappears, ill let you know!
