FFXI (Computer)- January 25th POL update wont let me loginFollow

#1 Jan 28 2006 at 2:10 PM Rating: Decent
I was able to successfully download the new POL viewer version without one problem, but the minute i tried to re-login with the new viewer, everything went to hell. My Norton Internet Security "sensed" my POL connecting to the internet and brought up a warning pop-up. This is odd because Norton has never been able to detect POL at the startup in my 8 months of playing ffxi.

Then, after i selected "Always Allow Connection" on my Norton Internet Security, POL kept attempting to log in, but it never gets passed the "Checking Playonline Viewer Version" screen. ater about 3 minutes, itll give me "POL-1160" error which reads "Network is busy or there are connection problems. Please try again later or verify that cables, network devices, and network settings are properly configured."

I also read this which is directly from PlayOnline:

[Information for the Windows version users]
The PlayOnline version update will modify the "pol.exe" file. Certain security/anti-virus software may issue a warning, but this is a normal part of the version update process.

If you are unable to log into PlayOnline due to "POL-0019" or "POL-1160" errors, please check your security/anti-virus software setting.

So i figure if i disable Norton Internet Security and re-login it will work, right? so i give it a try. when i try logging on again, The Norton message doesnt pop up, but i still get stuch at the "Checking Playonline Viewer Version" screen for awhile before getting error messsage POL-1160 again.

Right now im trying to disable Norton Internet Security on all levels. i can disable it on some levels, but i dont have access to all levels, so im going to log onto an administrative account and disable it, then try again.

If anyone has experienced this, or has any info on how to fix it, i would greatly appreciate it. I have a few other Internet security/antivirus programs so if it was a different program that held you back, please mention it, as it could be a program that i have that could also be blocking me as it did you.

**EDIT** I was able to disable Norton on all levels and i was then able to successfully log in. is there any way i can keep Norton activated for better protection and still be able to login in to playonline successfully?

It should be a simple matter of allowing POL free access to the internet through the Norton Firewall. You'll need to do it through the admin login though.
