PS2 FFXI and rapid disconnectionsFollow

Hi, recently over the last few days I have had much trouble keeping a steady connection. The game has worked fine for me almost a year. I haven't done any substantial changes to my hardware or configurations to warrant such instability (I think).
I have a model 30001-r PS2, use a linksys wireless adaptor to connect to a 802.11b network, and also have a laptop connected wirelessly to the network that functions normally. Every 5-15 minutes in game I lose connection either suddenly or the count down from 100% to 0%. I have received many errors including
POL-0512
FFXI-4001
FFXI-4002
FFXI-3113
I have tried contacting playonline about this already, and they simply said wire the PS2 directly into the router instead of wirelessly, as they *cough* don't support wireless connections (mine has been working fine for quite some time now)

There are times however when I can stay connected for nearly an hour or a little more. In theory I could directly connect to the router, but that would involve running my 75ft Ethernet cable down a hallway, a flight of stairs, through a kitchen, and into the front room. Not really a permanent solution for someone with a family. I have a firm grasp on many computer topics, but this is a very shallow area for me, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I will be hanging around the forums for a few hours still if more information is required for a diagnosis.
