I can't even open the paly online viewer. It says "Playonline Viewer has encountered a problem and needs to close."(You know, that little pop up that comes that says if you want to send an error report or not to Microsoft. i.e. - You open IE, then the page takes forever to load and so you close it but nothing happens. Then it says "Not responding" so you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open the task mangager. Then u hit end task, and then that little pop up I was talking about asks you if you want to send an error report to Microsoft.) I can't even reinstall or remove the game off my computer! So it's basically taking up space and being a waste of money right now. I need some help.

Information: (Hope it can help u guys find the solution.)

- Using a Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)

- Pentium 4 CPU 2.66 Ghz

- Chip type - Geforce4 MX 440

- RAM - 512 MB

- Manufactured by Sony

- System Model - PCV-RX881(UC)

- MB Used - 474 MB ; Left - 775 MB

Thats all I can think off atm. Please help, thanks.

Have you messed with your registry keys that are related to POL?

I had a friend who did this. He had the exact same problem.

Evidently the guy knows nothing of messing with Registry etc. Therefore, I have a suggestion. I think it is the video card. look HERE for another recent thread where a guy asked why certain games would not work with the GeForce4MX series.

Look at my answers there and think. He wasn't asking about FFXI, but the MX series is a pretty weak card and it may be the only thing preventing FFXI from running other than perhaps some other program hogging memory/CPU usage that causes FFXI to go into the not responding phase.

In any case. Take a look.

BTW, ever thought of actually taking the playOnline/FFXI folders on your hard drive and actually DELETING them?

Unexpected errors are usually software corruption. Best thing would be to uninstall, defrag your HD, then reinstall and patch. The video card he has should run FFXI, just not too well.

Try running a "chkdsk /r" from the command line before you do that.

1. Go to start -> run.
2. Then type in "cmd" and hit enter.
3. Then type "chkdsk /r c:" and press enter.
4. When it asks if you'd like to perform the check on your next restart say yes. Then restart your machine. It will preform the check right before you get into windows and then restart. It may take a little while but it's an easier thing to try than re-installing FFXI from scratch.

Well actually no i havent. although it may be a way. But i dont think it will work because if u delete the FFXI folders the game will still be installed on the computer. Only way to remove is thru Add/Remove Programs in ur CP. At least I think thats how it works. (Correct me if im rong.) But anyways thx for the suggestions. Ill try all of them out and try to get my game back and running again. Blowfin, I tried running the cmd, which worked, but when i typed in "/chkdsk /r c" it said that it is not recognized as a valid command.
