Help on new video card for FFXIFollow

#1 Feb 25 2005 at 2:53 AM Rating: Decent
I recently moved, and the PC that I have right now only has a Radeon 8500 DV. Now the game runs HORRIBLY on this system (it's an AMD 2Ghz with 256DDR), so I am assuming it's the video card, as that is the only component that does not meet specs.

I've tried searching around, and I am interested in the MSI GeForce FX5200 128MB. Does anyone know if this will be a better card for the game and get performance up there again, or know if this is a good purchase for the $$$ (I just switched from PS2). Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A 5200 might be a little low end for some of the more recent FPS games but should work great for FFXI, and has a more than managable price tag. You won't be able to turn on all the bells and whistles, but you will definitely see a world of improvement over PS2 graphics. It's a good budget buy.

You may also want to consider buying more RAM. It's cheap and makes a big difference from 256 to 768.
