Problem BootingFollow

Recently, when I start up my computer I had been getting a prompt that asked if I wanted to start my computer in safe mode, though for no reason that I know of. (I have not added any programs, or messed with drivers...) The computer was able to work a few hours ago, but when I tried to start it up, the manufactorer logo would come up as usual, the Windows XP loading screen (the one that has the logo and the little blue line that "moves" or "rolls") would come up briefly, then I would get asked if I wanted to start in safemode.

As this had been happening recently, I selected that it start in the normal mode, but after it restarted I would not be able to pass the safemode option.

My question is where would I start to look for any problems? One thing that I have noticed is that while in safe mode, when I right click on "my computer" a dialogue* box appears saying that there is an error reading SpywareGuard definitions, but I don't think that should make this problem.

Also, I tried to go back to an old restore date before these problems had occured, but with no luck- I was still unable to boot up the computer.

I'm using an eMachines t3085, with an AMD Athelon XP 3000+ processor, Nvidia geforce4 MX graphics and Nvidia nforce2.

I'm somewhat competent with computers, but I have no clue as to where to start looking for a solution. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I restarted my computer, and this time the restore point went into effect as it is supposed to, so the computer is usable. Still, I would like to hear from anyone that might know what I should do next to try to find and fix any possible problems.

Thanks.

Erm.. not sure on what could be going wrong, but this happened to me, I would wipe and re-install...

Since you can access your files, save/backup as much as you need to, then wipe everything and do a clean install...
