Lineage 2 Crashing - Menu Transparency?Follow

My friend recently got a new video card, a Radeon 9600 Pro 128mb which is better then his old Matrox32mb. I'm happy for him and all, but he's got a problem where whenever he tries to launch the game, everything freezes - the whole PC.

His drivers are updated from what he tells me, and he's also called ATI tech support.
After the phone call with tech support, he told me that he suggested it was the menu transparency that was causing him to crash, as he pointed out that when loading Half Life 2, he would tend to crash with that and CS: Source as well (he tells me HL2 and CS:S contains transparent menus). The tech support agreed with him, but that didn't really lead him anywhere.

Frequency of problem: Everytime for Lineage 2 and Half Life 2 when he takes too long on the transparent menus.

Um, would appreciate any help and tips that can help him in this situation - I'd really like him to be able to play, he's been watching one of my other friends play, and is really excited.
