I'm currently playing FFXI on a wireless network (linksys router and wireless adapter), and usually, it works fine for me. I haven't d/ced in days. Until, however, my father decided to tinker a bit and installed a new antenna. It is a Hawking Hi-Gain 6dBi Omni-Directional Wireless Antenna (http://www.hawkingtech.com/prodSpec.php?ProdID=145)
I knew as soon as I saw the stupid thing I'd be getting d/ced 10 times an hour again. I tried putting the old antenna back on, but it didn't solve the problem. I resolved to putting the new one back.
While browsing the internet I have not noticed any spikes in the connection, no troubles connecting to msn messenger or aim, or anything like that. Pages load quickly, download speed is normal.
However, I'm frequently getting disconnected from FFXI again (S/R slowly go down to 0/0 0%)and when it kicks me I get the infamous FFXI-4001 Error: No Response from Server. However, it doesn't kick me from PoL, sometimes it just takes me back to the FFXI character selection screen.
It can take anywhere from 5 minutes after logging onto the server up to an hour before I d/c. It is very frustrating, as I can barely do anything except run around Jeuno, waiting to see if it'll d/c me. D/cing as a WHM is very hazardous, and no one will want to invite me. lol
I have all recommended ports open, etc etc. Under my wireless network connection properties under advanced I have it set to access any available network. I do not have SP2 installed, nor am I behind a firewall. I play with Norton disabled as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
