Reinstalling - File ReplacingFollow

Because of virus trouble and whatnot I had to format my computer, however I was able to copy the entire SquareEnix folder to another computer to save all the patch data and to try to avoid patches (I can only download them at specific times and after a while it gives me a 1161 error).

I installed the POL, FFXI and both expansions, for registries sake, but when I replace the old POL files with the newly-installed files the POL crashes, can someone who has done this tell me which files I should replace to avoid the most patch files possible? I hope this doesn't happen with FFXI as well, I've read that replacing the ROM and sound folders will save me a lot of patch file download, but I wanna make sure I can replace most files so that I can play without my game crashing or updating.

P.S.

English is not my first language so I apologize if I didn't make perfect sense.

Here's my story, might help somehow...

I got a new harddrive, (the one i had before was slow and small). So after I put it in I installed Windows, all the drivers, and then FFXI. Since I'm on dail up and the patch takes 20+ hours so I decided to try transfering POL, TM, and FFXI files to the folders on my other harddrive. Files transfered normally for a while but then it totally ****** up and it said there was like five million hours remaining. After a while I decided to cancel the transfer, and I started up the patch and I guess it transferred most of the files because it only took five hours.

Everything worked fine.

just last night i installed a new videocard & hdd, which was set as the new master. i installed a fresh copy of windows, and then installed pol/ffxi/zilart/cop (like above for registry's sake). i had my previous main drive set as slave, so i tried copying over the old PlayOnline folder to the new one (so like 7 gigs total). once i started POL it gave a quick error, then did the patch "file check", and everything was fine. same with FFXI. so i can confirm that if things are up to date, and the system isn't changed that much, it will work fine. 0 downloads :)

hope this helps
