Cable Modem ProblemsFollow

Afternoon everyone,

My computer was recently just de-loused from 1400 spyware and a few viruses (curse you free **** site people!!!).

Anywho, after getting my computer back from the shop I have been unable to reconnect to the internet. All the connections are hooked-up correctly and I know my modem is working properly since I can play my online ps2 games.

A friend of mine hooked up a router to split the signal between my computer and ps2. This happened before I brought it into the shop. It worked fine before and i haven't tried to hoOk the router up again, preferring to run the cable directly to my modem and then to the computer.

When I try to add a new "network connection", the computer says one is already set up. I have rebooted, turned modem off for 1 min, etc... and nothing seems to restore the connection. When I unplug the connection from the pc, a little window shows up saying that a network connection has been seperated" or somthing like that.

Please help. I haven't been able to play eq for quite some time and the playstation game is just lame!!!!

It sound like your computer is already configured to the router, and the router is already configured to the modem. Why not just hook up the router?

Routers are your friends.

adding a router causes xp to reset a bunch of settings. Nuke and rebuild your network profile, that should do the trick.

but since you are what i like to call an "at risk" computer user. You really need a router. Hardware firewalls are your friends

Thanks for the help guys! I will try tonight and see if it works. I will definetely hook up the router again and see if it flys.

Kao, your "at risk" label made me laugh and remember the good old college days!
