FFXI causing pc to reboot itselfFollow

to start i am running an Alienware Aurora(biggest mistake ever, never buy pc's from these people, but that is another subject)
hardware specs:
AMD Athalon XP 2200+
1 GIG DDR RAM
70 GIG HD
Nvidia GForce 4 Ti 4600
Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy

running windows xp pro, with SP2 installed.

so during the summer when i got home from college i performed a reformat on my pc. after reloading and fully updating my pc i reinstalled FF and went back to playing.(this is before SP2 by the way) a problem occured where after any random duration of time my pc would either, 1) shut down FFXI on its own and go to desktop, 2) go to "blue screen of death", 3) lock up and go to black screen, 4)system would reboot entirely on its own.
so i slowly but surely tested out different aspects of my system be it software or hardware to isolate and hopefully fix the problem. i did driver rollbacks to older versions, alternate 3rd party drivers, harddrive scans, memory tests, you name it. eventually it appeared the problem was somehow connected to my soundcard, because once i removed it, the crashes/reboots stopped. to test it further i tried placing different cards where i placed my soundcard to see if it was a problem with the motherboard. but it seemed fairly conclusive that the soundcard was the culprit. so i removed the card, and have had no problems since. recently i got an ipod, and need to keep my soundcard in the pc(uninstalled or disabled) just to access the firewire port. this wasn't a problem until this past week when my pc has begun rebooting itself again. thinking it could be having the ipod plugged in might be "accessing" the soundcard even though its disabled, i stopped keeping the ipod plugged in, removed the firewire cable, and have once again removed the card entirely. since that did not stop the reboots i tried doing a system rollback to tuesday. the only thing i did wednesday was reinstall microsoft office, but i dont think that would cause this in any way, but it seemed worth a shot.
well the reboots are happening again, and since i have made no changes since i removed the soundcard months ago, and nothing of note particularly this week, i have no clue what is causing this to happen again. I constantly run virus checkans and spyware/adware scans, but it seems thoroughly impossible to keep a pc completly clean. nothing has ever come up in any of the FFXI/POL folders anyway. so I'm left with a pc rebooting itself again, and i am completly out of ideas.

sorry to be long winded, but before coming to the supposed conclusion it was a soundcard issue i checked everything that seemed suspect to the problem. so now that the problem has unfixed itself, I'm in panic mode since i dont have the slightest clue where to go.

any help will be much appreciated.

k done. assuming thats the problem i should be able to reinstall the soundcard with no problems right?

also. on the system info there is a tab for sharing/conflict, is that worth looking at?

ok i also went ahead and re-installed the soundcard. now the firewire port and the ethernet card are being listed under the same IRQ, so i guess i will disable the firewire while not playing. I have a few unlisted IRQ's so is there anyway to assign things to different ones?

i prey you're right and this works...

Coder please get back to me whenever you have the chance. pc is still rebooting, and none of my IRQ's are listed as doing double duty anymore. looking at fiddling around with my IRQ's in my BIOS, curious what you thought.

Its random when it does it, sometimes i can play for hours with no interupption, then later i cant even get logged completely in game. Any ideas would greatly help.

Heres some more info, this only started a couple weeks ago.

ok I'll try doing that, but if they are not sharing IRQ's would diabling them cause a problem?

ok i tried 2 things. first i remember back when i got the pc i moved certian cards around, so i moved everything back to where they originally were placed. i also disabled anything that either was sharing an IRQ or not listed on the set of original IRQ's that came with the pc. this time my pc did not reboot itself. after about 5 min the screen went black and and a 2-3 second sound bit from FFXI just played over and over like a skipping cd. one thing i noticed from looking at the IRQ configuration from when i first got the pc is there is an item listed as "NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management" that item is not listed with my current IRQ's anywhere

ok after investigating the IRQ lists on my pc and on the info that came with the pc when i bought it i decided to pop in my recovery cd and snoop around. there were 2 motherboard drivers i stupidly overlooked ever installing after the reformat. dont know if this is fixed, but before doig that my pc was locking up/rebooting every 2-5 min today. have been on for about 1 hour+ so there might be a slight glimmer of hope

well for the moment it appears simply installing some stuff from my recovery cd listed under motherboard drivers are working. there was something listed under motherboard drivers peraining to my video card. that coupled with keeping USB ports, the modem, and the firewire disabled everything seems to be ok for now

Sorry for bring up an old thread, but I'm having this same problem on my secondary computer and it's driving me nuts.

IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 1 PC/AT Enhanced PS/2 Keyboard (101/102-Key) OK
IRQ 3 Communications Port (COM2) OK
IRQ 4 Communications Port (COM1) OK
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 9 WLAN 802.11g Network Adapter OK
IRQ 10 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller OK
IRQ 10 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller OK
IRQ 11 NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro OK
IRQ 12 Creative SB Live! Value OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK

I honestly get the creeps when dealing with this stuff, cause I know I'm in over my head. I know plenty about computers, but I'm really a novice when it comes to this stuff.
