I'm sorry to revive a dead thread, but I've come across this same problem with my FFXI. Only difference is that I have a Radeon 9100.
So far I've tried: Reinstalling FFXI, several different drivers (4.8, 4.7, 4.3, 3.10, latest Omega... blah), and for somereason my Mobo didn't have it's AGP Drivers installed, so did that, still no help. I'm really stumped... as a last resort I'm thinking of doing a complete wipe and starting over with a clean Win XP, but I'd rather not lose all my data just to find out the problem still persists ><;
