FFXIV - Constant Lag/R0 at the same time every nightFollow

I'm in the UK and usually play with my brother (our computers are right next to each other) but I also experience this if only I am playing.

At the same time every night, onwards from about midnight GMT we both start to constantly be in and out of R0, making play virtually impossible. But at all other times, such as in the day and evening, we are perfectly fine. I've spoken to people in my linkshell and no one else seems to be having the same problems, although not many, if any, are UK based. If it matters, our internet connection is 20mb cable.

This is really pissing us off, as this is usually the best time for us to play. Can anyone help??

Thanks

check with your ISP...your node may be getting saturated or something could be generating interference (like a bad modem on the circuit could be disrupting signal or something). I had issues with a commercial account a few years back--one bad circuit was knocking about 3 blocks of people offline at night. Once I got a truck out there to start checking the lines...they had it fixed in about 3 hours--but it took almost all week to get someone on-site.

You might want to try to bypass the customer service frontend and ask to go straight to Tier3 support if you can. Take some logs of exact times for when it is going down--helping them pinpoint when it happens will speed things up considerably.

Could be something small and easy for them to fix once they find it. Cable has a bit of extra latency by design, so when things go wrong with it the connection can get pretty ugly. The trick is getting someone to investigate the issue locally.

also check your computer and your brothers for any backup jobs that are running right at that time, any antivirus scans, any disk defragmentation scans, windows update patch checks, etc.

Thank you for the detailed response. I will give my ISP a call to see if there are any problems in my area and/or if they can get someone out to take a look.

Everything else network-related on my computer works fine. I wonder if any other UK players are experiencing anything like this.

I have had the same problem for over a month and i know of 2 other people who experience an identical problem. One lives in london and the other lives near me. We are all on virgin media and I though that it was due to Virgin Media's crappy routing but that wouldnt explain why its only at certain hours of the day, before a week ago it was only between 12 and 3 am. Now its happening anytime after 5pm.

My friend has attempted to get a reasonable response from virgin media but they claim its nothing to do with them. The funny thing was that both me and one of my friends did a 500s pathping to the Lindblum server and we both got 100% packet loss at the square enix servers. My pathping showed 4 stages of 100% packet loss, and the VM representative said there was nothing wrong with the pathping (Laughable). Here is the forum topic:

I know that this is unrelated to my network / router because I experience no packet loss in any other games on my 360 or pc all ports are forwarded (As necessary) and its not due to capping as my broadband is not being capped.

You can add me and my wife to the list of R0 on the Lindblum server.

We are also with Virgin Media... The problem seems to be getting worse too.

Been fine all day and then as soon as 5pm hits the game has become unplayable. This was happening late last night too.

Can add me to the list, im also with virgin media except for me I think it is a router problem, i'm using the router vm provided when i upgraded to 50mbps cable. Although all other games, internet etc work fine, ffxiv does not. I thought at first that it was certain times of the day, but now its nearly all the time, when i use a direct connetion to the modem though I dont get any problems.

What router are you guys using? and do you get the same problems with direct connection to the modem. My router is the Dlink dir-615. Crappy thing about this as well is dlink will not offer any support and say vm have to provide the support, thats all well and good but if you ever tried talking to tech support at vm its absolutely pathetic. All they know is how to ping you router and those famous words "turn your modem and router off for at least 30 secs, that will solve all problems". Gonna stop there about vm or I could be typing for days.

I'm gonna get a new router at end of this month, probably something from cisco, I'll post back when i've got it and let you know what happens.

One thing to check for is also the QoS settings, make sure its at the correct setting, my router cant set this automatically, it fails so badly everytime it tries so i have to set it manually.

We're using a Belkin wired router.

Been playing since the first alpha test and only had these R0 problems once before in closed beta.

Strange thing is the LS chat works fine but the game world freezes during the R0's.

Maybe it is a router problem, for a little while earlier one of us was able to get a good constant connection for about 30mins.

After a reboot of the game the problem returned though :(

After writing my last post I suddenly thought why not make a router out of old computer parts I had around. I used m0n0wall software and although its complete overkill for a home router I have to say the performance is awsome. So much so in fact that I think i'll be using it from now on instead of buying a new router. So far so good, no r0 and i've been running it for nearly 2 hours now, lag is not as bad and the game feels alot more responsive. I'll post again after a few days but it looks very promising.

belkin routers are really quite horrible. You really want a Linksys, Netgear, or a D-link. I've never known anyone who had good luck with a belkin router. They make great cables, but crappy routers. I'd ditch that thing as soon as you are able.

I've never had any problems with the router before.

Judging by the amount of complaints on the Virgin Media support site. It seems this is an issue with Virgins new 'traffic shaping' software. What ever that means... ><

All mmo's are being crippled by it. WoW players seem to be getting the most support from them as you would expect... but I hope the problems are sorted out soon. This can't continue.

You can see for yourself the threads regarding mmo latency issues.

I had a Belkin wired router that was an excellent router. Then I had to buy a Linksys wireless router. It's been really good except every once in awhile I have to reboot it because the laptop can't connect any longer.

I get R0 a lot. Comcast US, Netgear router. It constantly comes up. I got it all through beta. Changing NAT settings in my router to open seems to have stopped me from getting disconnected from it most of the time. I play for a while and send is always consistent. It shows the same with a speed test. My receive drops way down when ffxiv is open. .5 MB then back up to 10 MB the second I close FFXIV. It is getting really tough to play anymore as this is occurring more often for me.
