Sure I wasn't disputing that, they make sense for soldiers in action. Just that you get/have to eat them while in the US. Surely some decent sandwiches or mac 'n cheese wouldn't be too difficult?

The 8-4, five days a week day to day operations aren't too different than regular office jobs. I'm not on a base anymore, and my company's designated cooks only work one weekend a month. When we're having full company training those meals are catered and not half bad. MRE is the "I'm hungry, but don't want to spend money" option. I mean, I could go out and grab a bite, but that's on me. That costs me a bit of money, and considering it's September 11th that means there are tons of people on the look out for my uniform to show how patriotic they are and that kind of gets unnerving after a while.

Oh right, I hadn't thought about it being 9/11. That must be the worst day to wear a uniform...

My first year in uniform on a 9/11, someone came up and grabbed both my hands to shake them and gushed how what I was doing was amazing and how they were thankful, and I had a hot dog in my mouth fighting to keep it from falling on the ground.

I found some Spicy Penne Pasta, which is one of the better options so all is good.

I don't think it's so much misguided as it is over-exaggerated.

Well, that took an unexpected turn.

Not if you knew the school. During my 5 years there there was only 1 year with 1 death and 1 with 6 or 7 with the other 3 at 2 or 3 deaths, most of them students getting in traffic accidents with their modified scooters or other traffic accidents but a fair few teachers dying for various reasons and during the one really bad year one student who had some muscle disease and was in a wheelchair died because her heart gave out, a teacher who had cancer for a long time died, another teacher hung himself and one of my best friends got hit by a van because the driver thought it necessary to look through his glove box while driving on a road with no cycling lane and lots of cycling teens.

That said, it is a very large school with some 3000 students of which the vast majority has to travel between 5-15 km to get to school every day so it's not that strange that accidents happen especially when a lot of young guys got scooters and modified them to go faster without replacing the breaks.

That's a huge school. So you were there for 5 years, so I'm assuming there are 2-3 grades?

High school which in the Netherlands is split up over 5 different levels that are 4-6 years, some schools also have first year levels that are a combination of 2 levels from which students will go to one of either level based on their grades during the year. Where you end up depends on a large multiple day series of tests at the end of primary school and a recommendation by your teacher although I think schools are also allowed to have an entry test in addition to the other two. The level of high school you do then decides which level of college/university you can do.

Four years of college, four years of medical school, then a year of internship and two of residency. At least that's how it is for pediatrics.

I was going with a Tommy Boy quote. It wasn't accurate since I didn't look it up, but still. Smiley: bah

If I recall correctly that debt stays with you for eternity and is bankruptcy proof for some odd reason. Probably because the humongous cost of studying in the US isn't enough of a ripoff yet.
