1 or 2? Haven't gotten around to playing either yet, but I'll keep it in mind.

So I was watching some Tour De France, interesting stats on the cyclists is that with the current heat (30-35°C) they need to go through around 12 liters of water and 8000 calories a day just to have the energy to keep going.

edit: also, they need to consume that for the most part while also cycling up and down mountains as fast as they can, which makes actually digesting anything a brutally difficult task for your body.
And keep in mind that these guys weigh around 130-150lb, they're consuming a fifth or a sixth of their body weight in water alone.
Makes you wonder why people thought a 30+ year old cancer survivor could win it without doping. Smiley: rolleyes

Either way that's some impressive stuff. Though I think the most impressive thing is riding that close to tons of other people who are going that fast without the fear of being mangled in a wreck causing you to quit.

~27-34 is the best age for the Tour De France though, you usually see younger riders get pulled out of course halfway through since they don't have the endurance to go on for 3 weeks. Contador is 31, Froome is 29, Nibali is 29, Valverde is 34, Richie Porte is 28 and those are the guys who had/have to do it for the overall win this year. As for the doping, the scale of doping in the tour was so insane around that time (I wouldn't be surprised if the number of doping users was over 90%) that nobody could have won it without doping.

Because cyclists are insane, you have to be insane to dare to go down mountains at breakneck speeds (60+ mph sometimes) with not uncommonly a sheer cliff on one side of the road. And none of them seem to think twice about continuing even after a brutal fall, Froome broke his wrist this year, Contador broke his shin, another guy broke his nose and someone else broke his shoulderblade and all of them are going to be competing next year if they get the chance.

Suppose that makes sense, they say marathon and 100k runners peak later in life as well. Guess it's much the same kind of endurance feat.

Well yeah, they cycle close to 2300 miles in 3 weeks with only 2 days of rest.

The grade school I went to in Hawaii was at the bottom of a pretty steep incline. On the weekend we used to skateboard luge down that thing. There was a ditch at the end and to one side where the road curved. Not exactly a sheer cliff but still an easy trip to the hospital.

I love it when a client describes something that is impossible the way they describe it. Then they have the fun of finding the mystery software on their system they'd forgotten about.

Clients were invented by the devil as punishment for our good natured attempts to help our fellow human beings. The problem can only be solved by nailing them to a cross and driving a pointy stick through their heart in some sort of appeasement ritual.

Failing that you can always try ignoring your inbox for a week. Smiley: thumbsup

Half as big as the Netherlands, with 1/10th the population, according to Wikipedia.

Odd, I just noticed that we're 133rd on the "Countries by size" list, while the Netherlands are 134th. I thought we were smaller in size, but apparently not. You've got three times our population, though.

The Netherlands is pretty densely populated, even the relatively empty part of the country I live in is still covered in small towns within 5km of each other.

even the big island can be driven around in a day, well not all the way around cause no roads in some areas

oahu takes 2-3 hours to drive from kaena point on the west side to kaena point north shore.

kaena point has no roads

I wonder what it is to have parts of your country without roads, I think you almost literally can't go a kilometer in almost any direction no matter where you are in the Netherlands without encountering at least a bicycle path.
