Sometimes I feel the same way. Smiley: lol

But if it wasn't for python I wouldn't have finished my analysis today. I'm not manually merging 3 partly overlapping data sets by hand.

Maybe one day.

The other guy here knows python, so I learned python or kinda sorta learned enough python to get myself in trouble at least. We have enough trouble keeping things moving along with one programming language, I'd hate to see us with two... Smiley: lol

You'd just end up having endless discussions on the pros and cons of each language. At least that's what Andrew and Kali do.

As a science and history teacher, I find the posts on IMDb.com about the movie Pompeii quite disturbing. Someone said that Pompeii wasn't a harbor city, and that a boulder launched from a volcano wouldn't explode upon impact.

Smiley: disappointed

That's the thing about education: the more you yourself learn, the more you realize how stupid other people often are.

New York Recap day 1:

Mamouns is great.

They've re-purposed a old rail line into an awesome walkway/park

Oh yeah, the High Line is great. Forgot about that, since parks were pretty much out the question this winter...

If you like art, MoMA and the Met are both easy recommendations. MoMA is home to Starry Night (and a bunch of other Van Gogh works), and the Monet exhibit at the Met is great.

I'm also planning on using the bike system to get everywhere this week instead of always going to the metro. Looks easy and affordable, and I love biking.

Hey, if you want to be contrarian, feel free. Just don't walk slowly down the center of the sidewalk.

If you're a reader, the Strand bookstore might be worth a visit. They set up shelves outside that have super cheap used books on them. And the cafe across the street makes a great latte.

On the other hand, cheap books are probably less interesting when you have to pack them.

The MoMa is also home to one of the Eames lounge chairs we had a long discussion about a couple pages back Smiley: grin

Also, Edinburgh is a very pretty city with lots of good beer, the only thing missing is a proper cycling infrastructure.

How long are you in Manhattan Xsarus? If you're still there, make sure you hit Ellen's Stardust Diner (singing wait staff!). And try to get downtown to Little Italy and Chinatown. I haven't been there in a bit, but there was a place on Mott Street for the best Peking Duck that was appropriately called the Peking Duck House Long time ago a few friends and their spouses, along with me and my spouse, decided on a whim to drive in and get some awesome Peking Duck. Because there were a dozen of us total, we decided to call ahead to make sure they had enough duck, and we made reservations (not required at the time, don't know about now). We got there and ordered, and the waiter told us they did not have enough duck. We told him we called ahead and the owner came out and told us he thought it was a joke. After he walked away we all looked at each other and started laughing, realizing how incredibly naive we were to think a Chinese Restaurant would take a call for a dozen Peking Duck seriously..

Turkish Cuisine on 9th Ave, between 54th and 55th, is pretty awesome. Best spinach I've ever had. If you're lucky, they'll have their chicken kabob/spinach special.

We could probably get another post-capped thread out of just places to eat in the city. Smiley: laugh

A pizza joint on Bleecker opened up a few months ago that's great. Koste or Kesta or K(some vowel)ste or some such. I think Napoletana is better, but that guy is basically the pizza version of Soup ****.

Hell, we could cap a thread just with pizza places...

Galanga over near Washington Square Park is decent Thai for the price. You can definitely do better, but it's still really solid, and it's so close to the park that it's usually stupidly convenient to hit it.

Also, if you have ANY chance, I couldn't possible recommend Sleep No More any more than I do. It's really awesome. You DEFINTIELY want to get the earliest entry time you can get, because they don't actually kick you out when the next batch enter, you can stay until they close (and you should).
