It probably comes down to what point your heat tolerance is relative to where you live.

80s always started to feel unbearably hot for me, even in T-shirts, so it was rough. Then again, I was way heavier. I have no clue what my temperature tolerance is like now.

This summer will be a learning experience for me. Smiley: lol

I keep telling the ladies at work this. Unfortunately, they keep filing the sexual harassment complaints . . .

That's why you don't say anything, just turn the heat up to 90 and put the thermostat behind a lockbox.

I'd be more concerned about the constant complaining. "Is it hot? Why is it so hot? Is something broken? Can we make it cooler in here? Are you hot? I'm hot..." Smiley: rolleyes

O.K., here's a simple question that I imagine one person will answer, with a one sentence post.

I want to read a book or two. Specifically, I feel like reading a book related to the Star Wars story(ies). So, where would you start, with which book(s)? Thrawn? Academy? One author in particular? A potpourri of books/authors?

That was more than one question. But all related at least.

I've only read the Star Wars books Timothy Zahn wrote back in the 90's; other than maybe glancing through other stuff. IIRC they've held up pretty well amongst all the spin-offs and related junk that's come out over the years.

There's a TON of stuff in the timeline closer to when the movies take place, but I personally find the plot arcs after the movies to be particularly poor (though that's not universal, and my experience with pretty much all of them is at the meta level).

There's also the very real risk that Disney will declare them non-canon soon.

The Old Republic era stuff I find much more interesting, particularly because there's less desperation to make them tie into the films. For instance, Luke pretty much completely follows in Anakin's footsteps and falls to the Dark Side and is saved by his son.

That said, I bought my first TOR book like last week and haven't started it.

The other plus side of the TOR era books is that KOTOR is a great game (and then you have KOTOR 2, which is equally loved), and a F2P MMO all waiting for you in the time period.

For Star Wars books, read the x-wing series. In my opinion it's the best.

Not gonna lie, part of my problem is that I don't find Luke that interesting of a character. I don't mind him in the periods of episodes 4-5, but Luke in episode 6 was just... not that interesting. Han and Leia were FAR more interesting characters in film 3. And I couldn't care less about Luke's life after episode 6 (though Han/Leia and their kids are more interesting to me than Luke's legacy is).

People seem to really like the Darth Bane stuff, though, which is between the Old Republic and the Galactic Empire stuff.

Watching Scott Pilgrim vs the World. I realized that the reason I love it so much is because I am a huge fan of campy, over-the-top, horrible movies, and Scott Pilgrim fits right in. It's not your usual B-list Sci fi horror like Sharknado, but it hits all the right (wrong) notes for me.

Just read Star Wars: The Old Republic, Deceived.

In terms of video game tie-in books, it wasn't terrible. I'm not going to say it was awesome, by any means, but I didn't find myself regretting that I was reading it at any point (which is really all I ask of EU stuff).

I honestly don't know if two of the main characters are even in TOR, so there's that. But I will say I find myself far more interested in Darth Malgus' character after reading it, when I wasn't all that interested before.

I necroed the Heroes thread, but I'm posting here too about it because **** that game.

There's a rainbow ******** unicorn mount available, and I hate it. I hate that I'm seeing all my favorite characters from Warcraft turned into jokes, with female characters getting even more slutty outfits, male characters getting huge joke outfits, all characters riding into battle on a unicorn that ***** rainbows, and I hate that Blizzard is going to make a ton of ******* money off of this.

I hate that they have their real cash shop up and running with the launch of Alpha. I hate that all of the heroes are overpriced, with the average being $10 a hero. I hate that they have mounts pricing up to $20 and they all look retarded. I hate that Blizzard din't give us "test currency" like they did with the D3 beta, instead expecting us to spend money in a test game. I hate how much of a cash grab this game is, it isn't even trying to hide it like usual.

I'm pretty sure I hate this game.

So stop playing it and pretend it never happened? After making your thoughts clear with Blizz anyway.

Every hero comes with a mount, so it's not like you're being forced to buy one. And if you think they look retarded, it would be an excellent reason not to spend $20 on one. Personally, I think the Direwolf mount looks badass, but I dislike the mount idea in the game as a whole. I'd rather they upped the movement speed a bit, possibly through talents, and saved the mount models for other effects.

Edit: Also, alpha is alpha...

I didn't have any particularly kind thoughts when I discovered the cash shop for WoW was now integrated in-game... everywhere.

I can sort of accept it on the character login screen. I can SORT of accept it in the esc-key menu. But the fact that they put it on the ******* toolbar? Yeah, no, that brought my opinion down a fair bit.
