I don't mind grinding if the combat is enjoyable. I generally find combat in WoW to be boring, same in Rift and almost every other MMO I've played. In the few where it didn't feel boring, it felt too much like gambling.

Grinding in Diablo 3 is fun. I can waste hours clearing content I've already cleared, simply because the combat itself is enjoyable. Grinding in WoW consists of me pressing two buttons (yes, on my Druid) until sh*t dies. Not a lot of excitement involved. Grinding in GW2 is sort of fun, but you can't really grind. You pull more than two of almost any kind of enemy, you're dead. Rift would be entertaining if the animations weren't so damn bland. EVE Online grinding is 10% action and 90% clicking radial menus to do sh*t.

Edit: They should make a Diablo MMORPG. I would grind dailies all day if it involved the over-the-top physics and spell effects from Diablo 3. Just not an isometric one... gimme 3rd person view, plx.

The daily instances didn't bother me much, the daily kill X of Y quests were so much worse.

I can tolerate daily instances, but even bothering to get into endgame seems pointless right now. I might see if I'm geared enough to just access all the story stuff for a once-and-done deal.

I started leveling a Priest, because why not; I never really saw all THAT much of the post-Cata world. But even that is getting boring now that the levels are slowing down. You just don't get cool stuff fast enough for it to be interesting, and losing out on the point-per-level in talents really, really sucks. Going 15 levels for a new talent? Not so fun. Particularly when you don't get abilities that quickly.

I get the philosophy behind them, but I really don't think the implementation is all that much better than back when you trained abilities and chose talents. I think there's a happy medium where it would have been MUCH better, but this is WAY too far in the "simplicity" direction for me.

Yeah, that's certainly part of it. Not so much when I'm mindlessly grinding, but for how much time I can stick with the game in general.

Keeping combat interesting is something all the games seem to struggle with to some degree. WoW suffered for me simply because every pull was the same after a while, Opener, blow a CD or two, spam something else until dead. SWTOR made it a little more interesting as there were more patrols ******** up the monotony, and different strength (weak, normal, strong, elite, raid) baddies that mixed things up a bit. Rift, obviously, has rifts and invasions and such that keep you on your toes a bit more, but other than that it's the same grind. TERA, for all it's emphasis on combat, basically never gave you an interesting mix of mechanics, every pull felt the same after a while. D3, I dunno, it really did get to be too much of a kite-till-dead thing after a while. Skyrim was the armpit of the combat world, thank goodness it was an interesting world to explore but the combat was the main reason I could never finish a character.

I can easily accept ****** combat when combat isn't the real focus of the activity. When it's a super interesting world (a la Skyrim), or great story, or some other gameplay mechanic that's really fun is just as prevalent, I can ignore the combat quite easily.

But there's nothing fun about doing dailies to me. They aren't intellectually stimulating, and I'm not having fun with the combat (which REALLY isn't fun because it's a faceroll, and it gets even less fun when it's not faceroll enough to just ZOMGMOARDOTS everything down in one big group).

Daily dungeons are entertaining enough for long enough to keep going, when your actual goal is gearing up. I don't have that goal. I sort of want to do the raids just to see the story stuff, but that's where my interest dies. The gear race has never interested me.

Borderlands feels like old WoW with regards to talent trees, new skill point every level baby!

Yeah there's not much choice but damn it feels good to actually see your character improve every level in a way beside stats (that aren't all tied to level anyway) and in the end whether you get new skill points every level or every 15 levels really doesn't matter much for choice as people are going to find the best options anyway no matter how hard you try to balance things.

Having to prepare food to sustain my physical form is currently high on my list of things I do not care to do.

I'm enjoying adventure mode a lot more than I ever enjoyed dailies in wow, but to be fair my total /played in D3 is not even close to my wow time yet.

I hate that it takes longer to make it than eat it.

The thing is, I actually really like cooking. But cooking is a lot more fun when you're cooking for more than one.

It's also a lot more fun when you're not extremely limited on free time. I'm lucky to get an hour to do non-life-maintaining things with my day.

Plus side, I should have multiple day's of food made (Mongolian Beef in the crockpot with carrots, some onions, scallions to garnish - just need to pick up cauliflower on my way home).

Usually when I start feeling like that I'll go make pancakes for dinner because that always cheers me up.

And I usually get carried away and make 2 dozen pancakes so I get lunch and breakfast over the next day or two.

You people and your wacky weather. Smiley: oyvey

Today is supposed to have a little less sun and a bit more rain. Which is good because too much sun coming in the window makes my office all hot, and that's no fun.

Hot is easier to deal with than cold. Easier to remove layers of clothes than it is to put more on.

I always felt like cold was easier, because you could put on more clothes to combat the cold and reach a temp you were happy with, but when it was 98 out the best you could get was 98 and naked, which still sucks.

After this winter, though, heat sounds nice.

Unless you run out of layers to remove.

Well, it's more along the lines of it's easier to take off a jacket to cool down than put one on to warm up when you're not home.
