Thought it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to all the comments etc for the patch rather than a bunch of spec/role specific threads. Maybe I'm wrong, shrug.

But I tried all three trees and here's the short and curlies:

Blood: The rune refresh-proc thing was disorienting at first but could add some fun to tanking rather than a static rotation. Otherwise wasn't really all that different than before. Felt solid. There several details I need to look into, but I need to run a heroic before making any determinations.

Frost: Bugged; rune cooldown a mess and Howling had no cooldown or target limit. Fun (in being OP) but needs to be fixed before I can really give it a test run.

Unholy: O. M. G. That's fun. Running in Unholy presence with Festering Strike and Das Uber Ghoul is a total blast. I'm really jazzed by how tight the tree is now even though I serious miss Corpse Explosion. Yes I know it was a useless talent point for the most part but it was just pure evil fun to blow up bodies. Overall the numbers looked good, not great but I'm guessing that's more to do with operator error than the mechanics.

Cheers!

I've only tried funholy out in any serious fashion. Frost, DW, was ok but the lack of glyphs killed it for me.

Unholy is now called funholy in case you missed the memo, not you Therion but others. Its odd as old unholy was boring.

my DK has been DW for ages now. Tonight I should finally be able to log on and deal with my Talents.
Anyone link this funholy spec? Rotation?

I ran 10 man icc last night with my DK. I know there are a lot of factors involved so take my observations with a grain of salt.

My Frost DW single target dps was *way* up from before 4.0. AOE was higher than before but on par with unholy. I didn't realize it was bugged. Spamming howling blast is a lot of fun.

My Unholy single target dps was higher as well. My AOE dps was about the same as it was prior to the patch. (My unholy spec and talents are focused on single target)

Surprisingly, my frost DW single target dps was higher than my unholy single target. AOE, they were really close.

One thing I noticed was that in Frost I always had a button to hit. There were a few times in unholy where everything was on cooldown and I was waiting. I might be missing something.

The opening rotations are different due to scourge strike now being only 1 unholy. I think I need to replace a blood strike with a festering strike to get all my runes on cooldown for the 4pc t10 bonus. IT-PS-BS-FeS-SS. Otherwise you end up with 1 frost rune left over.

I expect my numbers to inch higher as I learn the new specs better.

Edit: FS->FeS

Saw several tanks in heroics who don't seem to have gotten the memo that blood is the tank tree and Blood Presence is the tank presence. And one special little guy who tanked our entire run as DW frost with no presence on who got mad at me for mentioning it.

Enjoyed my first heroic as Blood. Didn't have all that many problems holding aggro, but was putting up a skull mark just to be safe anyway. Crimson Scourge is way too much fun, too.

It's going to be interesting to see what changes come to Frost. It is hitting crazy hard right now. I haven't tried DW yet, but 2H Frost appears (at this time) to be an OP spec. I'll agree with the statement that you always have a button to hit. Runic Power generation was off the charts and Frost Strike was critting for 12k...O.o funtime spam!

I tried Unholy for a bit and guess I need to get more used to the new rotation. Mega-Ghoul is cool, but I could not get into a good groove as far as rotation went. It didn't help that there was a Fire Mage in the group that was using the Tactical Nuclear Strike talent they apparently got in the patch. Maybe I'll respec again to try it out.

I'll be trying out Blood tanking tonight to see how I like the feel of it. It looks pretty solid and with the new DRW glyph, should be able to generate some serious threat.

I forgot to mention but the other day I was flying around Icecrown farming herbs so I could make some glyphs and a Frostbrood Matriarch attacked me while I was flying. I hit shadowmeld as I was almost dead from fall damage.

My ghoul killed it, I was shadowmelded the whole time.

Was able to run a few heroics last night and tried a few variations of Funholy.

Couldn't get any significant difference in throughput between Unholy and Frost Presence in either spec I tried. Unholy was marginally ahead due mostly to transformation procs (more Death Coils=more uber-ghoul), but the difference was small enough to be blamed on RNG.

Overall I found Funholy is hectic and engaging. Didn't find myself rune-locked except when I was trying weird rotations. Total average deeps was Ok, not great, but things in heroics are still dying too quickly to make a definite assertion there in regard to raid performance.

Oh, and I still miss CE. qq But the transformed ghoul is so very full of win.

I got to try out 2h frost DPS the other day. Dual wielding feels like it was hitting a little harder. I'll stick with dual wield.

I got my frost dw DK to 80 yesterday, and joined a bg for some reason. Howling blast crit some guy for over 8k (i believe i had razorice stacked on him and cinderglacier procced though). It also hits everything around the target and snares everything and dots everything; for one frost rune!

It was absolutely glorious, i just hid behind my teams ranks and blasted stuff like a caster, closing in to dump runic power on strings of frost strikes. I came second in killing blows and did fantastic damage, in the worst gear imaginable. Anyone try this kind of spec in good gear, reforging mastery for huge frost damage? I'm specced for pvp, something like this:

http://www.wowhead.com/talent#j0hZGhRrfzRdczb:aMcVcqmzc

I literally just howling blast and frost strike stuff, and use utility abilities to help team-mates. That strangulate glyph is crazy powerful, its like a mages counterspell in duration but on every single magic school.

I was thinking of perhaps switching to 2-hander because although FS would hit slightly weaker, it would free 3 talent points, and due to the higher frequency of frost strikes runic empowerment would give you more howling blasts. Kinda like why i play in unholy presence; stuff hits a little weaker but you get a 1 second gcd and lots more runes over time.

Runic Empowerment has a hidden bonus for Frost AoE (not sure about other specs) that seems to be against Blizzards design philosophy, so it might get changed in the future. If you leave one Blood and one Unholy rune up and ready at all times then every RE proc is forced in to recharging a Frost rune, thus giving you more HBs.

The reason for the sequential rune change was so you could leave runes up for a few seconds without a dps loss (much like how a Rogue can pool energy without a loss). Any viable (or optimal should I say) strategy that involves only using runes at BB or UU is surely unintended.

I think Frost is going to get toned down a little. The burst damage is absolutely crazy.

Ran a heroic with a DW Frost DK in T9 gear and he pulled aggro from the tank on single target fights. My own level 69 DW Frost DK pulls some 1-1.5k DPS ahead of everyone else. It's out of control!

Let's hope not. We didn't get any nerfs in 4.03a, so hopefully the devs see nothing wrong with the class.

It could be that the way things settle at 85 will not be like they are now. Such as when 3.0 dropped and my ret pally was doing ridiculous numbers. I think Blizzard issued a statement at that time something to the tune of "Relax, the new classes are balanced for level 80, not 70."

Howling blast is only so crazy at lv 80 because of mastery stacking, which will scale vey badly on the way to 85. Here's a video of some duels on the beta at lv 85:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEbC5UukrAA

Howling Blast is still great if you are being kited off target but the spec focuses on obilterate much more for the lions share of the damage. That video also shows very clever use of dark simulacrum (death grip and dark sim. to copy the inevitable blink) and the goblin racial to counter being kited.
