I am returning after not playing since a little after TBC came out and was planning on picking up a Rogue. So, I have a few nubby questions.
1) Is there a certain weapon combo that excels more in PvE (like is dual dagger superior or mace/sword.)
2) Since I plan to PvE more than PvP, is Combat still the best tree for raid DPS and general lvling or is there a split on that now?
3) Is rogue DPS still looked down upon? (Rogue use to be regarded as one of the best PvP classes but people almost hated them for anything raid DPS related.)

Combat is the worst tree for leveling now.
Generally in PvE, it's a split between 51/18/2 and combat.
Rogues have never been looked down upon by anyone who's been any good at this game. If you were looked down upon, chances were you were bad.

That one mystified me as well. I have raided since Vanilla, and Rogues have never been considered anything but downright excellent at single-target dps. The only things that have changed is the method by which the dps has been provided through talent tree tweaking and itemization. At the moment, I'm valued by those I play with as one of the best dpsers in the bunch, and that's with six months outdated gear. I'll grant that I fall slightly short on the trash AoE packs, but once there's something that'll take a beating in our path that gets clawed back to me being on top.
As for leveling, I've found that pretty much all classes level retardedly fast these days anyway, so your specc will only mean leveling retardedly fast, or insanely fast.

I do remember some people that were in my guild said that Rogue suck for DPS since for some stupid reason like you have to be behind the enemy and die too easy, they were just dumb little reasons but I heard so much of them it started to become a "well maybe they are right" attitude.

People telling you without proof doesn't really mean anything.
If they provide you mathematical proof, then start believing them.

None of the attacks used by the 2 viable raiding specs have any positional requirements beyond it being more efficient from a mechanics perspective.
