Is it possible to Heal in Hit gear ?Follow

This may be a dumb question but is it possible to find a balance between dps'ing and raid healing when required.

My preference is to raid as a shadow priest but on occasion I am called upon to be the raid healer due to varying reasons. I originally geared up my spriest so I aimed to be hit capped, currently about 100 over hit cap so that's the next thing on my list to sort and I'm saving up for the Meteor Chaser's Raiment to replace my Ancient Polar Bear Hide which would reduce my hit by 61.

So what I really want to know is

A) Is it possible in my current gear
B) If not, what should I be aiming for

Yeah its possible but you wont be doing as good of heals in hit gear. plain and simple, just start collecting healing gear here and there for you'r off spec and befor you know it your off spec will be almost as strong as your main spec.

The problem with healing in DPS gear isn't so much that Hit is useless (though it largely is in PVE, unless you're using Shackle a lot), but that it's in the spot where Spirit would be on healing gear. Your regen gets whacked accordingly. You've got 25k mana, so maybe that isn't a problem for you, I don't know. And you seem to have several Spirit pieces which may close that gap enough. It'll be a trial-and-error kind of thing to see whether you're going OOM or not.

Bottom line, I'd guess you can heal in your Shadow gear, provided you're only called upon to spot-heal for short bits of time. If you need to do long sustained healing, you might find you need to carry around a few pieces of healing gear.

I've got two hit pieces and a few more spirit-less pieces in my healing gear. It happens.

Worst scenario I've had in ICC was running out of mana and nearly running out of regen cooldowns, and funnily enough the only time I used all my regen cooldowns including Hymn of Hope was on Lootship one time.

So basically just figure out if you need more mana, and in either case carry at least part of an offset because things like the meta are really quite valuable.

Can you heal in dps gear?
I can answer that, the answer is... no! freaking! way!

Just to clarify, I inadvertantly attempted just such a thing last night in ICC. We started up on Sindragosa's trash and I didn't realize that I still had my shadow gear on from the night before. I was in the correct spec (Disc), so the size of the heals was about the same, but I noticed that I was thoroughly quenched of mana during the trash pulls. It didn't dawn on me right away and I had to call out for one of them thar Ernivates.

The more I think about it, you could probably heal adequately as long as you use a different meta and trinkets to provide better regen/restore, but it will be somewhat gimped by all the allocation into hit.

Changing out the hit gear doesn't have to be too painful, new pants and a weapon get you halfway there. The ICC 5-man instances can provide MH+OH (if you can get that Shriveled Heart to drop, it is very well itemised for any caster). Your belt probably has more positive itemization on it even with the hit than anything pre-ICC. I'm sure you already have an idea of what you want to get for your feet.

Take a look at the crafted stuff, with the ease of acquiring pre-ICC mats these days, it's a crime to not consider a few of those items. (I'm looking at you Merlin's Robe!) If you are serious about gearing up for dps, save those frost badges for the shadow t10 gear, the 4-pc bonus is worth it. =)

To be 100% objective and honest with you... You need to refine your question. Sure, I can heal myself in hit gear. I can heal heroics in hit gear. I can probably heal Algalon in hit gear, if the other healers carry me.

When all is said and done, it comes down purely to the content you're doing. If you've not got any healing gear and you're just looking for faster queues to heroics, then decent shadow gear will do just fine (assuming you're not in blues and this isn't heroic HoR we're talking about). If you're raiding Icecrown Citadel 25-man hardmode... then gtfo off hit gear. Technically seen, yes, you can heal 25-man heroic Lich King in hit gear, you'll just be carried and not pull your weight. If by 'healing' you mean 'healing and actually pulling my weight', then, assuming you're in full shadow gear with 14% hit, you'll get into troubles somewhere halfway through IcC 10-man.

That said, it's not always a grave sin if you wear some hit pieces. Generally, hit is bad and goes to the mages, but there *are* a couple of pretty decent cloth items in IcC that have hit, and might be an upgrade for you. I myself sat at around 5% hit in healing gear at my worst, then I had three items with hit on them (because they were all upgrades from what I had before that). But if a DPS caster wants the stuff... hands off.
