My GM made a mistakeFollow

I've been healing for most of the WotLK content with some forays into shadow from time to time. To me, going dps is kind of like recess to my normal role of healing. Make no mistake, I am happy healing the group and am content to maintain my role as healer.

Lately, I have been given a few chances to go dps on a few bosses when more ranged is a better solution. I am somewhat happy with my dps- the 4pc bonus is the shizzle, but I never got the opportunity to dps on trash. Until last week...

I've seen the DK in my guild go as high as 36k on trash (accidentally pulled both valkyr in 25 man and was able to sustain it for a minute or two before we were overwhelmed by all the adds) and our feral kitty is getting better at staying alive when she absolutely tears through trash, but I had only done bosses as dps and went back to healing between until our last run.

I think it was one of the trap packs between Fester and Rot, I popped Mind Sear and watched my numbers climb over 20k! As I was cackling over vent, I could almost hear my GM groan for letting me experience this bit of ecstasy and she knew it would be difficult to pull me out of the shadows.

I know it is only trash and it is certainly no measuring stick (oh boy, one button dps!), but I was so surprised by result, it left me feeling a bit empty when I switched back to my healing spec. =(

So do dps consider bosses main course and the trash dessert?

This.

Also, don't be surprised by Mind Sear's dps. Mind Sear is, when it comes to the AoE family, a bit of an oddball. He's the cousin sitting in the corner that doesn't really fit in, and sometimes gives you those creepy looks, but he is very good at what he does.

It's been my experience that Mind Sear has a bit of a balance issue. My theory is that in order to make up for not damaging the target of Mind Sear, the damage on all the other targets is slightly higher than for, say, Blizzard. This would normally balance it out on a fight with an average number of creatures in an AoE pack, but if you add in more than intended, watch out.

So whenever you find a pack with a metric crapton of mobs, such as the trash in the plague wing, rejoice. It is there that your giant black ripple effect will truly shine.

Cookies and Death Stars and Oddballs, oh my!

How can I resist? Must... heal... group

Might be a lost cause.

Putricide is my best friend, now. Loading up dots before phase changes is just kookie fun. Sure, go ahead and stun me, Prof. I can dps while asleep. Muhahahaha

You know, you can Mind Sear in disc/holy spec too.
It might not be quite as fancy, but you can still pull 8-10k dps on AoE packs.

Oh yeah, I Mind Sear and Nova while healing when I can, there's just usually enough damage going on that I can't make a serious effort at it. Popping a shield between MS gives a nice haste bonus!

I get (friendly) warnings from my raid leader... If my dps climbs too high while healing, he will demote me to a guild rank that I can't repeat here.

It rhymes with truck-card =O

Stars. Of Death.

Must heal everyone and still DPS.

Stars of death... What ever. I like heal. DPS is boring.
